Post Christmas Gift: Acquittal

Delroy Moss

Christmas came a few days late for another man who made an appearance at the courthouse. Nineteen-year-old Delroy Moss, who has been the subject of a firearm and ammunition case, narrowly escaped a five year sentence today when he appeared before Senior Magistrate Sharon Frazer.  It is alleged that on March 13th, 2011 Moss was busted with a homemade nine-millimeter pistol whilst standing at the corner of East Canal and South Street.  According to a police report, Moss was seen tossing the weapon nearby.  When he was detained and taken back to the area they discovered the pistol.  Moss was later charged with keeping a prohibited firearm and ammunition. Today he was acquitted following a ruling that there was insufficient evidence to prove the charges since the force armorer, Orlando Vera was unavailable to provide testimony.  He was instead charged with committing a mischievous act and was fined a hundred dollars plus the cost of court for which he has until January thirty first, 2012 to pay the fine or face one month imprisonment.
