Incest case strike out

On Tuesday, Justice Denis Hanomansingh dismissed a case of incest brought against a resident of Corozal after the alleged victim, the man’s daughter, failed to appear in court to testify against him.  The young girl was sixteen years old at the time when she was allegedly molested. She was reportedly prepared to take the stand against her father despite being discouraged by her family.  The father continues to reside at home with her mother and siblings and is the sole wage earner in the family.  From reliable information, the teenager had indicated, on previous occasions, a willingness to cooperate with prosecutor Trienia Young by providing evidence during the trial but the case had been repeatedly adjourned.  When it was finally called before the Supreme Court on December thirteenth she was a no show, prompting Justice Hanomansingh to strike out the case.

Another injustice manufactured by the Belizean system of justice. Why is the victim punished while the accused rapist stays in the home?

The judge should have made a “stay away” order, and the police should have enforced it.

We are turning the Jewel into Sodom and Gomorrah.
