Easy Glen fallout with City Council

Goldburn “Easy Glen” Adolphus is a well known U.D.P. supporter and former City Council employee. More recently he ran into trouble with the law over an unpaid debt and when we caught up with the brash personality today, he was in a quandary with the City Council. Now unemployed, Easy Glen carries on his hustle at a property near the cemetery. But CitCo wants him gone and Easy Glen is not taking that lightly. News Five’s Delahnie Bain reports.

Goldburn “Easy Glen” Adolphus has been odds with the City Council for months and today there was tension in the air as special constables were instructed to remove him from a property adjacent to the Lord Ridge Cemetery.

“I partly raise up right yah da dis spot, right yah dah di burial ground. I used to—I’m not ashamed of it—I used to homeless and I use to live right yah at this burial ground but actually for the past couple months I’m not employed so I hang at the burial ground and do my hustling and hustle mi lee change and so. I sell tennis and different things right yah dah di burial ground. So I noh know how all of a sudden they have problems with me. And I know the special constables, they have something at the Belize City Council that these people can be doing. These are tax payers money. We have hot spots and all kinda thing in the city right now which is chaos. Man they must have something better than this to do rather than come and sit down and watch Easy Glen.”

“Who actually owns this property?”

Goldburn Adolphus

“Well, the property is not for the Belize City Council. The property belongs to—I forgot the lady name, but they weren’t paying property tax and so forth and nobody was going and checking on it, so the council just slide themselves right in and take it.”

According to Easy Glen, his problems with the council started when he spoke out against the contract with Belize Maintenance Limited.

Goldburn Adolphus

“Lot ah problems I had wid di council especially when I spoke about the guy Mr. Ellis who owns BML and I told them that the contract that Mr. Ellis has and he di pick up one, one, one, one, two cents cigarette but round di place and di collect wah hundred and ten thousand dollars a week, my God. So I said things, which nobody set me up or give me on no script to say and I am telling you dat da di only problem weh I have within the council that they are giving someone money which we are not getting value for our money.  From the other day when I started to grind Mr. Ellis from BML strike start to come from here, north, south, east and west afta mi and I dah somebody weh I noh wah give up just like dat. I wah keep mi cool but at the same time I wah stand up fi what I believe in.”

Easy Glen says he just wants to be left alone.

Goldburn Adolphus

“I di appeal to dehn dat I actually can’t tek it no more in terms of the harassment dat I di get especially from people weh I support. I loyal to my party, I am loyal to my party but I noh know weh di ketch mi sistrin and I tired ah it. Today I tell dehn, dehn wah have to kill me fi move me from here and I swear to God dehn wah have to do me something cause I tired ah dis mein.  I noh have no problem with them, I just want dehn leave me alone. If they have problem wid me, give me a job. Give me a job, give me a job. So that is my concern sis, I di ask dehn fi please leave me alone.”

Delahnie Bain for News Five.

News Five contacted City Administrator, Candice Burke, who responded Easy Glen’s claims by email. She said, “Due to complaints received about loitering and misconduct on the compound of the Cemetery House at the Corner of Cemetery Road and Partridge Street, the Council has found it necessary to restrict access solely to Council workers and those there to attend to funeral related matters.  Loitering on the compound by outsiders is strictly prohibited.” So while Easy Glen feels like he’s being personally targeted, the Council says it’s just business.

Just as the squatters by Chetumal St were kicked out earlier, the same should be done for Easy Glen. He deserves no special treatment when all he does there is promote illicit activities along with criminal and thugs in that area.
