Mexican says friends abused at border

Carlos Barrachina Lison

A high profile professor at the University of Quintana Roo is making a serious allegation about local immigration officials. According to Professor Carlos Barrachina, two close family friends, Honduran national, Xenia Paz Bardales and Mexican National, Yolanda Pineda Castillo, were abused by officers at the western border as they tried to reach Mexico via Belize on November sixteenth of this year. Barrachina has been to Belize to look into the incident. He alleges that the women were detained for three hours and verbally abused by immigration officers and were eventually released. The experience, he says, has left them traumatized.

Dr. Carlos Barrachina Lison, Claims Relatives were Abused by Belizean Immigration Officers

“Two citizens, one from Honduras and one from Mexico, were abused at the Benque Border by Immigration Officers and I think that this is a very complicated issue, very serious.”

Andrea Polanco

“Okay, when you say abuse, what exactly you mean, what took place?”

Dr. Carlos Barrachina Lison

“My wife is from Honduras and a cousin of hers came two weeks ago from Honduras to her home with a Mexican friend. They had some problems at the border with the immigration because a Mexican citizen didn’t have her passport in order but instead the officers said to them they cannot go through Belize and put them in jail and ask the Mexican citizen for sexual favors if they want to go through Belize. The two women were released from jail after they paid one thousand American dollars and this is very serious. The officers gave them back their passports and papers after they paid this money and release them after asking them for sexual favors.”

We wish to point out that Barrachina uses the term jail to refer to a detention room. Barrachina says that the women were never given a receipt for the one thousand U.S dollars that they paid. In a press release he has issued, he says that Pineda didn’t have a passport because it was stolen, but that she was travelling with her Mexican identification card, her valid Social Security card and her Population Registry Card.  He says he has filed a report to the police and that he has met with officials to discuss this incident. Via email, Barrachina says that the Ministry of Immigration has promised to investigate the matter. We called the Immigration Office in Belmopan but were told that the Director, Ms. Meighan was unavailable.

This non-sense will continue, because their Minister in charge no longer cares about it. These types of abuse continue to happen, even here at the Northern Border (Santa Elena). Come on Mr. Prime Minister, when will this abuse and harassment will stop????????

  2. Bgroovy says:

We get treated like this everyday in Mexico…

  3. chaveli says:

get out of Belize you fraud

  4. Positive says:

You see, it takes someone from outside Belize to come in and straighten things out.
Well let me tell you, the Benque border has more issues than just that. They are hustlers like hell. That’s their aim, to see how much they can make per day. And now asking to be paid off with SEX?
I’m sure this is a serial rapist committing it frequently. Hopefully more woman will come forward.

This is indeed a travesty if it is true. I believe that this is very ulikely because why would you pay one thousand dollars and still not allowed to enter? Ironically only the Mexican citizen’s passport was stolen, not her identificatiions nor her money. Again the University Professor must live in the heaven or zionist part of Mexico, because this is their way of life and an accepted part of their culture. Not condoning this action at all, but I believe we can all line up at a TV station in Mexico and give them similar stories. Who feels it knows it. Merry Christmas professor, it hurts like hell.

I dont know what these Mexicans think that they hace too much rights here in belize, but i have for several times been the victem of Abuse at the Mexican border. A recent one was this past monday. The guy wanted to lack me up just because i asked them why do we have to get in line because i dont have the Card and i use my passport. So i asked if i can just get the paper to fill rather than wait in line just to get the paper So the Officer there just started out shouting at me and saying that we belizean think we are the boss and other stuff.

SO i think if they want to throw things at US they need to look at themselves first

I agree a lot of us can give them similar stories. A different type of extortion just happened to me in Chetumal over the weekend. Do you see me yapping about it on their TV station? No!

You go and give mexican immigration this story about no passport, see what happens. You are detained and also charged a ‘mordida’. Come on professor, if you were such a high profile why couldn’t you get any help from you mexican counterparts. That is why each country has an embassy or consul abroad, to help in ‘missing’ passport cases. If she lost her passport why did she try to cross the border without one, she could have made arrangements before attempting to cross.

I’m so appalled that he feels insulted at what our Belizean people go through every day at the Mexican immigration point and with their policia.

I have a similar incident to report. I was travelling to Chetumal in March using my border card which would expire in April. The Mexican Immigration official told me that I could not use the card to pass because it would expire the next month. I told him that the card was still valid and he told me to shut up because he could have me arrested for using the card which was about to expire. He told me that I should be glad that he would allow me to go through.
I tell you, these Mexicans cause us more injustices than what we do to them. I am of the opinion that most of what he says is a lie which he is using to justify something wrong that they did.

  9. islander says:

Why is this such a big deal? MEXICAN AUTHORITIES TREAT SILLY BELIZEANS WHO GO SPEND THEIR CASH IN MEXICO LIKE TRASH ON A DAILY BASIS…

And dont make the mistake of accidentally taking your gun into Mexico because they will lock you up for a long time…

  17. Darlene says:

Well Belizean get treated worst than this traveling through Mexico, so I do not feel sorry for them. My brother got the taste of the Mexican roth when he travel from the USA to Belize with his vehicles. He had to pay a whole bunch of money, to the Mexican authorities, so that they will leave his property alone, to continue his tirp to Belize. He even got lock up at one point for absolutel no reason. Please everyone knows even people in the USA not to travel to Mexico anymore. They are trying to give Belize a bad name knowing they are the worst corrupted country in Central America.
