B.D.F. soldier remanded for assaulting wife

Lyndon Flores

Thirty-one year old Lyndon Flores, an officer of the Belize Defense Force, is remanded at the Belize Central Prison tonight following an appearance in the courtroom of Chief Magistrate Anne Marie Smith.  Flores is accused of assaulting his common-law wife Shayla Morena with a gun and destroying several household items during a domestic dispute one month ago.  On November tenth, the B.D.F. soldier allegedly entered Morena’s home where he produced a handgun and pointed it at her.  Flores then proceeded to break a number of household items including a stereo system, a washing machine and a pair of pillows.  As a result, he was charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one count of damage to property.  In court Flores pleaded not guilty to the charges; however, he was denied bail due to the nature of the offense.  Bail can only be granted after a ninety-day period of remand has been served or with an application at the Supreme Court level, which requires legal counsel.  Lyndon Flores is scheduled to reappear in court on January eighteenth, 2012.
