Kim Brannon convicted of Murder of common-law husband

Kim Brannon

There were two murder cases before the court today; one was for sentencing while a verdict is being deliberated at this time in the other case. Two weeks ago forty-one year old Kim Brannon, who also uses the last name McLaughlin, became the second woman this year to be convicted of murder. Brannon was charged for the December 2008 murder of her common law husband, forty-two year old Anthony “Antics” Herrera. She arrived at the courthouse in high spirits this morning, but that all changed after Justice Herbert Lord handed down a sentence of life imprisonment. Still, she maintains that she is innocent and has indicated that she will appeal decision. In mitigation, one character witness spoke on Brannon’s behalf. Prison Officer, Agnes Nunez asked the court to be lenient and described Brannon as an understanding, humble and kind person. But for a murder conviction, the only two options are life in prison and the death sentence, which was not sought in this case. The murder occurred on December thirteenth, 2008 at the couple’s home in Burrell Boom where police discovered Herrera’s body lying in his bed.  He had been chopped on the neck and pathologist, Dr. Mario Estradabran, determined that he was killed while he slept and could not defend himself. After the murder, Brannon had claimed that two men entered their home and murdered Herrera. She later admitted to killing her common-law-husband in a caution statement to police, but soon recanted, saying she had been forced to confess. Prior to Herrera’s death, Brannon had been accused in another murder in 2006. She was suspected to have killed her ex-boyfriend, Paul Gonzalez and injured his girlfriend in Orange Walk.

I think guys should be careful not to make a relationship turn ugly. Because hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.
