Murder trial close to giving a verdict

Brandon Smith

While Brannon learned her fate today, five men on trial for the brutal slaying of Randy Coye in October 2009 are still in the court of Justice Adolph Lucas, awaiting a decision. A jury of seven women and five men stepped into the deliberation after four o’clock this afternoon, which means that the verdict will be announced after eight o’clock tonight. The accused men are Edwin Flowers, Bandon Smith, Kenroy Humes, Deshawn Mena and Leon Gray.

Edwin Flowers

Coye was last seen alive on the night of October second, 2009. That was a Friday and his family grew worried when he didn’t return home the entire weekend. But the following Monday, Coye’s body was found at the Lord Ridge Cemetery and it was gruesome scene. The sole witness in the case, was Emmanuel Willoughby, who was also an accomplice in the murder, but was given immunity to testify against the other five men, who he claims were Coye’s friends. In a vivid testimony, Willoughby explained that Coye was kidnapped by the group of men and taken to the cemetery where Gray hit him in the head with a sawed-off shotgun.

Kenroy Humes

Another man then began to stab him and when he fell to the ground, Humes hit him on the head with a bible shaped tomb stone. According to Willoughby, Gray instructed Humes to shoot Coye before they left him to die. Justice Adolph Lucas reminded the jury today, that as an accomplice, Willoughby has motive to give false information and advised that if they doubt his story, they must find the five men not guilty.
