COLA supports Council of Churches in fight against UNIBAM

Last week the first hearing in court for the highly anticipated case of Caleb Orozco and the United Belize Advocacy Movement (UNIBAM) versus the Attorney General was adjourned to December ninth. The Council of Churches had filed an application seeking to strike off listed expert witnesses for the UNIBAM and its claimants on the grounds that they are not qualified to give expert testimony. UNIBAM in turn filed a counter-application seeking to do the same to the Churches. Last week the attorneys for the Council of Churches were out of the country and so the trial scheduled for the fifth to the ninth of December was moved to the ninth. As the case heads to the courts, COLA issued a press release today opposing the lawsuit, which seeks to decriminalize the sodomy laws in Belize. COLA says it supports the status quo, stating that our constitution was founded on the principles of the bible, a position which supports the Council of Churches’ stance. The release goes on to say “The act of homosexuality in our view is not only wrong or in other words sinful, but anti-life, that is because two persons of the same sex are unable to reproduce.”  In conclusion, COLA calls on the government to clearly define in Belize’s constitution that marriage is between a man and a woman.

I find it quite amusing that an organization whose name has the term “liberty” in it would take such a stance on the issue. It just goes to show the level of ignorance that both organizations and political parties in Belize possess. The demagoguery and political pandering to a group that promotes hate speech, indoctrination and blind fanaticism needs to stop. These organizations and parties should be the defenders of our democracy by upholding our constitution. The preamble of our constitution does acknowledge the supremacy of god but nowhere does it state that it is the monotheistic chrisitian god. For all we know it could be Allah, Demeter, Zeus, Horus, Mithra, Tammuz, Ganesha or the pink unicorn. To believe that our constitution was based on the bible is the height of arrogance and stupidity. Belize is not and will not be a theocracy. There should be a separation of church and state.

COLA as an organization has lost credibility and has been marginalized, apparently they are trying to ride the waves on the coat tail of the church organization, attempting to get back into the fore front of what is going on in the jewel. If two consenting adults want to get into an imtimate relationship, whether married or unmarried, be it male or female it is not the business of the church or government to play God in terms of dictating or legislating morality. Those with opinions, that homosexuality is wrong or anti life are plain and simple hypocrites. In short many of them have homosexual tendencies and are definitely homophobic.

  3. BAS says:

    COLA IS OFFICIALLY USELESS!!!!

  4. mustard says:

I think COLA ought to just shut up, they have no business being in this, ones man opinions are not the opinions of others, whats their “gay supporters think”, i would no join a group of self rightchess SOB’S.
They have lost all creditablity now, i will not support themin anything from now on. Not one thing. smug SOB’S

  5. Always concerned says:

And besides all the obvious as stated above, I find it quite disturbing that the choice of words used by COLA includes ” Homosexuality is anti-life because two people of the same sex are unable to reproduce”….Umm so where does COLA and The Council of churches put heterosexual couples who are unable to reproduce for whatever reasons???? If I were them I would choose my words wisely, as a matter of fact, I would choose my battles wisely!!!!

The council of churches need to focus on why congregations are getting smaller by the week!!!!

  6. Be Real says:

I have been away 4 a while but here is my daily 1 cent:

  7. islander says:

I am still waiting on the Council of Churches position with regards to Priests touching “and worst” little boys?

We need to hear their position and then quite possibly I would lend them an ear.

  8. Ignorant says:

Can someone shed some light on this matter as I have been living under a rock for a while? What exactly is Caleb Orozco and the United Belize Advocacy Movement (UNIBAM) after and what do the council of churches and COLA oppose?

  9. Be Real says:

I TAKE BACK MY EARLIER COMMENTS. COLA IS RIGHT. I MISREAD THE HEADLINE THINKING THAT COLA WERE SIDING WITH UNIBAM. THIS IS THE ONLY THING I HONESTLY SUPPORT COLA FOR BECAUSE THE STATUS QUO IS OK FOR THE “MAJORITY” OF BELIZEANS.

THE WILL OF THE MAJORITY SHOULD NOT BE USURPED TO PLEASE A MINORITY WHICH HAS A STRONG ARGUMENT, BUT AN AGRGUMENT WHICH ATTEMPTS TO FORCE AND IMPOSE ON THE MAJORITY THE WISHES OF THE MINORITY WHICH THE MAJORITY OBJECT TO BECAUSE IT IS AGAINST PUBLIC MORALITY.

SURELY WE DO NOT WANT OUR CHILDREN TO THINK BEING GAY IS A GOOD THING. DO WE? EVERY PARENT WANTS TO ONE DAY BE ABLE TO SAY THAT IS MY (BIOLOGICAL) GRANDCHILD, SOMETHING WHICH CANNOT BE ACHIEVED IF YOUR CHILD IS OR BECOMES GAY

  10. dude says:

be real: so what you gonna do if it turns out your child is gay ? tell him/her that it is a “bad” person ? “cure” it with some extra praying lessons ?
it is not your right to judge over others sexual orientation !
guess whats the professional guild with one of the highest rates of homosexuals ?

  11. Ang says:

Being gay is not a legal status its a sexual preference like doing sex with animals n other desires just as people have a right to be or accept gays I have a right to refuse this reform and vote against
    same

  12. jill says:

i must agree with be real100% these homosexuals who is(minority) want to come and impose on the majority ,their nasty lifestyle. cola is right ! it is a fact that homosexuality is anti life. if every woman match themselves with anonther woman and man with man no reproduction will occur and an end to mankind would fallow shortly, how hard is that to understand? and for that person above trying to sound smart by bringing up about heterosexual that can’t reproduce, for one, heterosexuals couple that cant reproduce, it’s not their fault they have no control over that but homosexual s it’s their choice not to reproduce, and those heterosexuals that cannot reproduce is a minority just like those homosexuals,
