Cosmetic thief gets powdery sentence

Martin Ferguson

But in the courts, thirty six year old Martin Ferguson was sent to jail on his birthday for an old crime he had committed. Ferguson, who appeared in court today pleaded guilty for stealing cosmetics valued at nineteen dollars from Williams Store located on the corner of Central American Boulevard and Vernon Street. A non-custodial sentence was imposed on Ferguson and Magistrate Sherigne Rodriguez fined him two hundred dollars which he is to pay by December thirtieth and if he defaults, he is to be imprisoned for two months. And just when he was told to go, the prosecutor recognized Ferguson from a conviction in October, but back then he was known to the court as Richard Ferguson. It turned out that in the first conviction, where had stolen from Save-U, he gave the court a wrong name. In October he was fined a thousand dollars and since he hasn’t paid, he will spend one year imprisonment. Ferguson, who appeared with injuries in court today said he will be pressing charges against the security guards of Williams Store because they attacked him after he was caught stealing from the store.

oh poor thing. you will charge security guards for beating the hell out of you?
Instead, you should thank them that they didn’t shoot you. Please, get some sense. i can’t believe they didn’t kill you, chop off a finger or something.

Yeah right. This should be a common occurrence in Belize. If you catch a thief, there should be a law giving the way the thief should be handled: catch him, beat him up, tie him up and then call Police to pick him up. This should be the way these occurrence should be done.

I cannot believe that the courts do not have a proper mechanism to insure that people are checked to see if the name they give is the correct name!!!! You mean someone can go in and use my name get charged and they may just believe it is me? Don’t accused persons have to be fingerprinted and proper documentation taken? Now fine we have many uneducated and lacking common sense police officers but is it the same for those in the upper part of the hierarchy that oversee our security? GOD HELP US!!!! I cannot count on our national security being in good hands!
