Cops beat man for drinking on job comment

Leonardo Yama

A police sergeant narrowly escaped going to prison today and was granted bail on a charge of wounding. Forty-six year old Jose Ortega was arraigned this morning for an incident that occurred in September, when he and Police Constable Leonardo Yama were accused of beating up a Magistrates’ Court bailiff. Yama was charged days after the alleged assault but Ortega did not show up in court. Today he appeared before Senior Magistrate Sharon Frazer, who queried his absence from the initial arraignment. Ortega claimed that he was ill at the time and that a former magistrate had told him that he was not required to appear in court until the next adjournment date. Magistrate Frazer did not believe him and since Ortega was in violation of his police bail, she asked why he deserved to be granted bail today. He maintained that he was unaware that he was to appear in court at an earlier date and apologized for the misunderstanding. The Senior Magistrate granted him bail in the sum of three thousand dollars. PC Yama, who was released on bail in September, also appeared in court today and the case was adjourned for January sixteenth, 2012.  The alleged victim claims that he saw the two uniformed officers drinking at a bar on September sixteenth and told them that it was a disgrace. According to the bailiff, he went to the restroom where Sergeant Ortega confronted him and punched him in the face.  PC Yama intervened and both officers began beating him. He lost a tooth and received an abrasion on the lip as a result of the attack.

I know Mr. Casey and he is a humble upright public officer who these 2 rougue idiot police beat up for saying what they should not be doing. I hope they get the book thrown at them as police should be held to a higher standard. I also know Mr. Casey will not be scared into “forgetting” who did this or being threatened-its about time they did it to the wrong guy who instead of blasting them like on the streets will take the matter to court since he works there.

And you wonder why the police can never find the criminals. Beer officer?

These rum belly cops usually end up doing things like this. COMPOL should have them running Battle Fitness Test once a month and if they can’t pass give them warning letters of intention to discharge. They sure bring pressure and shame on clean cops.
