B.E.L. signs agreement for $5.5 Million contract

The Belize Electricity Limited’s Chief Executive Officer Jeffrey Locke and the European Union’s Country Representative in Belize Cosimo Lamberti Fossati signed an agreement this morning to implement a three-way initiative between the Government of Belize, the European Union and Belize Electricity Limited.  The two-year project will provide several communities throughout the country including Belama Phase Four, Steadfast, as well as Cotton Tree Village, with safe and reliable electricity supply.  A contract for five and a half million dollars will extend B.E.L.’s national electricity grid.  The undertaking is being financed in large part by the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of Countries with counterpart contribution from G.O.B.

There we have it! This would never have happened under private ownership… Now we see the result of us owning our electricity company. Thank you Mr. Barrow and GOB for this early Christmas gift.
