3rd Annual Punta Fest

A massive concert is going down this weekend at the MCC Grounds and it will feature some of Belize’s top musicians. It’s the third annual Punta Fest and it’s leading up to Garifuna Settlement Day. The lineup of artists is all you need to know that it’s going to be hype. Ernestine Carballo, Supa G, Consigo, Taprick, Titiman Flores, Lova Boy and Aziatic will all be taking for one night of non-stop dancing. While most of the performers live in Belize, Lova Boy and Aziatic came home today to get ready for Saturday night’s concert. News Five caught up with them at the airport.

“I’m really excited. Right now I’m just ready to go on stage, I’m ready to give the people something excited. It’s really nice right now.”

“So what can Belizeans expect when they come out to Punta Fest this weekend?”

“They can expect to have a good time. The whole idea right now is to have somebody you know Lova Boy, Supa G, Consigo and all these guys on the same stage; it’s just something that I think is necessary. This is our music. You hear all these countries having Sun splash and all these other concerts and this is something for us to come and showcase our talents to our people and just really give them an experience like no other.”

“Dah di most beautiful feeling eena di world when yoh step off ah dah plane and dah air hit yoh, yoh know weh di go on, yoh deh home, welcome to Belize. Every time I come home dah wah beautiful thing. I can’t ask fi nothing betta dan fi get pay fi come home and live my dream. It is I Lova Boy. We understand whereby entertainment is powerful so we di push di unity aspect. They could expect fi have wah great time, dehn can’t expect fi go home dry because we ah sweat out all ah di bad energy and we wah do it; craziness, nuff music.”

“I know that you guys get to perform in a lot of different countries, how does it compare to when you get to perform here for your own people?”

“There really is no comparison when you’re home, you’re home. The vibe is different, the energy is different because, again this is where the music is. When you go to other countries, of course they appreciate it and they like it. However, when you’re here you’re doing it for an audience that pretty much understands what you’re doing. Whether people understand the language, or whatever it may be, it’s just a different vibe so it’s an exciting thing.”

Lova Boy

“Rememba weh we di do, man like myself, Aziatic, Supa G, Reckless, Andy Palacio rest in music—me seh RIM, no RIP—we di ker Belize music outside ah di world. But when we perform it yah, dah like we noh have to try explain eena no way weh we di do. Unnu just understand if we start wiggle and whine, unnu done know weh di go on already. So dah wah pleasure fi si di joy eena people face and fi hear di people eena yoh own country cause no mek no mistake, dah unnu mek we. Without unnu, there’s no Lova Boy, there’s no Aziatic, there’s no Supa G, there’s none ah we. So we love unnu real.”

So get your dancing shoes ready for the concert that’s coming up.
