Mike Singh officially withdraws from political race

Businessman Mike Singh will not run in the U.D.P. Caribbean Shores convention. We had so reported since last Friday, but Singh made it official this afternoon at the U.D.P.’s constituency office in King’s Park. A week ago, Singh got the blessing from current Area Representative Carlos Perdomo when the incumbent minister announced his retirement from partisan politics in the next general election. And though the evening meeting was to throw both Singh’s and Perdomo’s support firmly on the only female cyclist, Perdomo made allegations that the other cyclist in the convention was buying out his supporters.

Mike Singh, Stepping Aside

“The first thing is to offer prayers and best wishes to my friend, the honorable Dean Barrow; his daughter, Salina and my very good friend, Kim. Just to wish her a very swift recovery and this is a very stressful time for them and I think as a party and as a nation I think it is something that is very close to us, so I just thought I’d express that first. Today I am formally announcing that I have decided to withdraw my bid to be nominated as the standard bearer for the U.D.P. in the Caribbean Shores Division and I pledge all my effort behind Miss Chandra Cansino to ensure that she becomes the next U.D.P. candidate for Caribbean Shores. My reason for this decision is very simple. I believe that it is time for our party to break from the status quo and that we build an inclusive team of representatives and in particular that we ensure that the women of Belize who represent the backbone of our society are fully represented. The selection should not be about money or power; it should be about representing all the people in the highest level of government and I think we need to set an example in Caribbean Shores. I’ve known Chandra for a long time and I have no doubt that her strength and dedication, she will emerge as a leader that Belize can be proud of. Chandra and I share very similar values and a similar passion for service to our country. And I believe if we approach this as complimentary rather than competitive, I think Caribbean Shores will have a better chance at having the right representation.”

“When Mike stepped down it, it did shake us up a bit, and I don’t know if everybody here in aware but in Caribbean Shores we have a committee that is very opinionated, very loud and they are not afraid to say what they think. So Mike got his earful and more. And so yes there were some feelings of little let down and so forth and it did shake us up a little bit, but this is not—Caribbean Shores committee is not like those committee where people say if anybody disagree with me, I wah change dehn one time and that. You noh even think about that here at Caribbean Shores. So we gathered, put our thoughts together again, we licked our wounds and then we started serious discussion and like I said, it was through serious discussion and thought and so forth that we are supporting Chandra. As far as defections, there have been no major defections from the committee side. I think what you’re beginning to see is a money game and one or two of our street campaigners have been invited to joined Santinos, which a few of them have. We have called them to come back and we got quite a few back, but whenever the other side here that we di invite dehn back, they go and doubled up and so. So money is being spread around from that other camp. So I wouldn’t call it defections, but you could call it maybe buyout.”

  1. CEO says:

What the heck were you doing in there to start with? You were only trying to run on your brother’s coat tail and does not have the skill necessary.

Are you guys going to start cutting down your own party members too?

Look the problems of the country far outweighs your little politics! Will any of the politicians from eith side realize this? People (all Belizeans regardless of party affiliation) do not really care who is there what they are literally dying for is for someone to make positive changes.
