Story PictureIt might be a far too dramatic way to get in shape if you’re just starting your exercise program but the second annual Strong Man competition might the motivation you need to your act together. So far, seven challengers have signed up to compete in a series of physically demanding activities as they vie for the title of Belize’s strongest man. According to organiser Francis Woods, proceeds of the event will be donated to a worthy cause.

Francis Woods, Organiser, Strong Man Competition
“Well It is a fund raiser for Salvation Army, it’s our second one. This year instead of the muscle beach, we had the female volley ball competition along with the Strongman Contest. You can expect two by two females competing, there will be eliminations. We will have the finals around twelve and one and then right after that finishes we’ll start the Strongman Competition. They start with pulling the Isuzu DMAX down about a hundred feet, they lift up the tire from Caribbean Tire Wholesale, they have to stand up ten drums, load heavy pieces of metal into the excavator, pull a boat full with Red Stripe beer, push a huge tire, and when they finish that they have to stack five truck tires. So it’s seven events total. And we’ve upped the stakes for first prize for both the volley ball competition and the strong man contest to a thousand dollars first prize, seven hundred and fifty second and five hundred third place.”

Organisers say they hope to raise a total of five thousand dollars for the Salvation Army. The reigning “Strongman” is William “Billy” Woods of Belize City. The event is set to start at eight on Sunday morning and activities will also include a beach volleyball competition.
