Men get off murder charges of ex-cop

Josiah Thompson

Two of three men accused of the January fifth 2009 murder of ex-police officer, Josiah Thompson, were freed of the charges. Thompson was shot and killed during a robbery outside the Belize Bank.  This evening, a jury of twelve persons who had stepped into the deliberating room at twenty minutes after one this afternoon, emerged at five-fourteen this evening and unanimously announced that two of the three men, identified as Arden Garay and Delawn Parham were not guilty of murder and not guilty of manslaughter.  Just last week, the third suspect, identified as Elvis Duncan, walked from the charge of murder when Justice Troadio Gonzalez upheld a no case submission made by Duncan’s attorney.  During the three week trial, a voir dire was held. On January fifth 2009 Bowen and Bowen employees with two security guards, identified as Millard Tun and the deceased, Josiah Thompson, along with another employee, were taking a deposit to the Belize Bank when a lone gunman exited a taxi, shot Tun and Thompson then made off with the deposit bag.  During trial, Tun was able to recall the shooting but was unable to identify any of the accused as the gunman at the end of his testimony. On the night of the robbery, Police Inspector Mark Flowers said he heard the shots and later went to inspect the area. He claimed he met Parham who alleged he saw the shooting and that it was committed by three Guatemalans. That same night, Garoy was found at a house in the area with foot injuries believe to be a gunshot wound. WPC Pascasio testified that she met Garoy sitting on the side walk and that he told her that he had committed the murder. However, all three men claimed they were beaten by police to give a caution statement implicating them in the robbery.  Garoy produced a medical certificate confirming that he was beaten and that he had no injuries consistent with the alleged gun shot wound. Duncan was represented by Dickie Bradley, Garay by Arthur Saldivar and Parham by Tricia Pitts Anderson.

No worries mate, won’t be long before you hear those same names again, ARDEN GARAY , DELAWN PARAHM, and ELVIS DUNCAN. The darkness that accompanies them, will see that their deed not go unrewarded. No repentance will save them. I knew Thompson well, a kinder soul was harder to find, karma will deliver his due. If it be justice, he will have it.
