Bob Bou-Nahra and his 200 Belizeans take over Vegas

Millions tuned in on Sunday for the World Series of Poker that got underway at the Penn & Teller Theatre at the Rio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. Among the nine at the November Final nine table was Badih “Bob” Bou-Nahra, wearing his now famous Belize cap.  He is the only Belizean to have made it so far in the huge international competition that started in July with a total of six thousand eight hundred and sixty five competitors. Bob was also the only amateur to compete on Sunday; the eight other players were professionals from Germany, Ukraine, US, Britain and Ireland. The Rio theatre was packed to capacity with fans and family of all the players. A large contingent of Belizeans traveled to Las Vegas for the event and was joined by other Belizeans who live in the United States. According to ESPN, the Belizean contingent was the most vociferous in support of their favorite player. Garifuna drumming gave the edge to the contingent as fans waved the Belize flag at the opening night. We take a look at some of the highlights on Sunday.
