Cyclists airborne during crash with vehicle

One person is in very critical condition tonight after a horrific accident on Thursday night. Alton Murray and another person known as Babaihleh Faber were on a motorcycle heading north on Coney Drive when they collided into a car near Body 2000. Both men were flung from the motorcycle. Witnesses say that they were travelling at a high speed and when News Five arrived at the scene today, a speed bump was being constructed in the area. While Faber was treated and released from the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, Murray suffered severe head injuries and remains hospitalized. Noemi Lara, a trainer at Body 2000 told News Five what happened after she heard the loud bang.

“It was about seven-thirty and everybody was in the gym working and doing the usual stuff and out of nowhere we heard a sudden bang. Thinking it was something that happened in the gym; one of the guys rushed out and saw something out here and everybody kinda ran out. When we reached out here, we noticed that a car was parked out here going into publics and a motorbike was on the ground, broken up. Two people were on the street, you know it looked horrible. The guys from Body 2000 tried to assist them. It looked like they were speeding up and they overtook the first car and when they tried to overtake the other one, the car was turning into Publics so they hit it and flew over the car and when that happened, the motorbike crashed into another car and the guys fell off onto the street. One of the guys, his skull was broken. The other said he wasn’t feeling his feet. The guys tried to assist them. One of them, they took out the tongue out of one of the guys mouth and it looked like he was on weed or something at the moment because smoke came out of his mouth. It happened so fast, everybody was on the phone calling the ambulance and the ambulance came, took care of them, picked them up, took them. You know police, traffic department, everybody was out here. So it was something that happened really fast, about ten minutes the most but everything was rushing and everybody was out here so it was chaotic.”

BUMPS DON`T SOLVE PROBLEMS AT ALL, BUMPS ARE BS THAT SHOULD BE BUILT INTO THE @$$#$ OF THE STUPID POLITICIANS !!!!
BETTER IS TO APPLY THE LAWS OF THE TRAFFIC AND ENFORCE THAT LAW.
INNOCENT AND TRAFFIC OBEDIENT DRIVER NEVER, NEVER DESERVE ANY BUMPS.
BUMPS HIGHER THAN 4 INCHES ARE ILLEGAL, ABSOLUTELY ILLEGAL. BUT THE @$$#$ DON`T KNOW THAT, OR DON`T CARE ABOUT MOTORISTS. BUT WHEN THEY HAVE TO PAY FOR A LATE MODEL CAR THAT GETS INTO ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF THE FAR TOO HIGH BUMPS, THEN THEY WILL AWAKEN TO THEIR STUPIDITY !!!

cars turn left and right on Coney frequently-it is a business and resdential area-whoever overtakes is an idiot and deserves what they get-especially motercyclists-what is the rush and doesnt everyone know the front car can turn either way?

Noemi, why would weed be the 1st thing you think of when seeing smoke from someone’s mouth?

Oh my! I am so sad to hear of this accident. I do hope that the persons injured recover well. My prayers are with them.

I was on coney drive on Friday and I too did not notice that new speed bump in front of/or near the Body 2000. I am use to driving on Coney Drive and I was unaware of the new bump….I did not notice a sign and moreover the bump was not painted with any reflecting paints; it was just and black asphalt bump, same as the street itself. So my fault for not noticing the bump, but, I was not accustomed to it. Nevertheless, it is very wrong to put a speed bump and not have appropriate signage or the bump painted to alert the drivers.

I passed on Coney again on Friday night and it seems like someone took the liberty of painting the bump in a rush way. I say rush way because, it certainly did not look professional and all the materials, which look like spray cans, were strewn across the street. Whomever, did it, kudos to you, it must have helped. Apart from that new speed bump, there are the other two very high speed bumps on that street that need to be repainted.

I hope that the traffic department, or the MOE, or whomever is the responsible authority, to repaint those bumps and place the appropriate signage. I don’t think we want any other people hurt! Sheesh!

It is truth that speed bumps do not solve any problem. I am just seeing that every time something happens the solution is a speed bump. Who pay the price? The rest of the people with low vehicles. Somebody should do something about all the nonsense happening in Belize: Lot of speed bumps and also they do not meet standards, non functional roundabouts, worst, decorations of those like a maya temple with canons??? I think is just lot of ways to justify their steeling. Like it is said, enforce the law, only way you could get a ticket in Belize is wrong parking. Enforce the law, make traffic officer do something else than checking license, make people respect traffic laws, and make proper traffic laws also. Use the material of these speed bumps on fixing the streets. Anyways nothing will happen as usual, things will not change in Belize, all politicians are the same. Hope those guys get better and be more careful in the future.
