Millions at stake; OYE joins Belizean at WSOP Finals

Texas Hold-em Poker is a game of skill, luck and plenty of nerves. You have to be good at keeping a straight face when there are thousands of dollars at stake. But when there are millions of U.S. dollars on the line, you just got to have a poker face.  Badih ‘Bob’ Bou-Nahra with his poker face and trademark Belize cap is preparing to sit at the table of nine contenders for Sunday’s World Series of Poker Finals. The competition will be shown live on Channel Five while Open Your Eyes host Marleni Cuellar is leading a team that will bring you all the behind the scenes action before and after the event. Before setting off on the jet to Las Vegas, Marleni spoke about the event coverage.

Marleni Cuellar, Host

Marleni Cuellar

“This weekend we’re going to be following Bob BouNahra the poker player who has made it to a very prestigious level in poker. He is a part of what is called the November 9 which is essentially the 9 finalists for the World Series of Poker. And although there aren’t a lot of people who are aware of the major level tournaments, it is a very big worldwide event. The fact the Bob has made it to this level is very good for him, but even very good for Belize.  One of the things that has been highlighted of course is the fact that as it was winding down to the final nine he sported his Belize cap the entire while; really bringing a lot of attention to Belize. And even in his interviews that followed, Bob talked a lot about being able to say I want you all to know more about my country. Him being a part of the November 9, ESPN came here to do some shoots with him. So we’ve really gotten exposure as a country and I think following a Belizean that is making such a great accomplishment is really something that would be nice. What we are going to do is; there is a very large contingent that is going from Belize to view the game itself. There are a lot of people who support Bob from Belize and Belizeans Americans living abroad. So we are going to be able to get some of the behind the scenes things that are happening. There is a little get together for his supporters as well and see what it’s like to support this person as he steps into one of the biggest competitions of his life I’d imagine.”

Jose Sanchez

“And so how much money is Bob expected to gain; what’s the least he can gain in this competition?”

Marleni Cuellar

“Well it depends on where he places. The top prize is somewhere over eight million U.S. dollars. I’m sure that’s what he is gunning for. I don’t want to obviously jinx his luck whatsoever. We’re going there to follow him and to support him and wish him the absolute best. The first game will be played on Sunday.”

Jose Sanchez

“Will Channel 5 also be doing some coverage prior to the actual event beginning?”

Marleni Cuellar

Badih ‘Bob’ Bou-Nahra

“Oh absolutely. So we are going to be able to; like I said a lot of Belizeans going there to support him, we want to talk with them, get a feel of what it is like and also the other players who are there. This is actually a unique group that is together for the November 9 b4ecause they are from a lot of different countries and that hasn’t been the precedent before. So you have other countries, other press, and they are obviously there to support their own players. So it is a little international match but it is all about a card game and a lot of thinking so we will see how that goes.”

Jose Sanchez

“There will also be updates on Monday on Open Your Eyes?”

Marleni Cuellar

“Yeah we will be doing a thorough update of the weekend on Monday and then we will have a broadcast before the tournament starts on Sunday just to be able to fill you in on what happened on Saturday and perhaps early Sunday morning.”

If Bou-Nahra makes it into the final three, the poker event will continue on Tuesday. Stay tuned to Channel Five during the weekend and Open Your Eyes on Monday for Marleni’s Vegas updates.
