Camalote Cycling Race to Culture Capital

Norman Henry

November is the month that the Garifuna culture is celebrated across the country. But Dangriga becomes a hub for celebrations particularly on the nineteenth. That is also the day that the Camalote Cycling Club takes on a traditional ride to the Culture Capital. The president of the club told News Five that the event is very competitive.

Norman Henry, President, Camalote Cycling Club

“I am doing this November cycling race for past four years and my race start in front of the western gas station in Roaring Creek—it starts nine o’clock—and runs to Dangriga; finish in front of the monument in Dangriga. My race is a very big event because it’s open to all cyclists. For the past two years, Geovanni Choto has won my race. Couple years ago it was won by Marlon Castillo. It went across to Geovanni Choto again. So I want the public to know that the race is on and make the sponsors work along with me. If they need any information, my number is 629-3383. They can always give me a call. My race di starts nine o’clock from in front of gas station in Camalote village; 19 miles. And I’ll really appreciate for everyone to come out and give a really good turn out and thanks to all my sponsors who supported me.”

Henry says that there are a host of organizations, too many to mention, that are sponsoring the event.
