Homeowner says cops broke into his house

In Dangriga, a resident is complaining that the Gang Suppression Unit thrashed his house this afternoon. Timothy August says that he was tipped that the GSU was searching houses in his neighborhood. He was not worried because he says he has nothing to hide. But when he got home after picking up his daughters, he was shocked at the state of disarray. What’s more, there were also missing items.

Via Phone: Timothy August, Claims GSU Officers Burglarized his House

Timothy August

“When I came home from picking up my daughters from school at three o’clock I met my house with the front door broken, the lock ripped apart and then when I came inside the house was ransacked you understand. And then I had somebody next door that told me that the GSU unit was at your house. He said I don’t know what they did but I saw the two Toyota Hilux came to your house, two pickup trucks loaded with guys came to your house. The house is totally ransacked, my daughter’s mp3 player is missing, I had a cell phone that needed unlocking that is also missing. I haven’t done a thorough search to see what else is missing or if they took anything else but so far those two items are definitely gone. I don’t know what is the reason but it is uncalled for.”

“You mentioned, you would have no problem with them searching your house because you have nothing to hide. So I guess your problem is the way they went about doing it?”

Via Phone: Timothy August

“Definitely. I mean I live in a new area, my house is a newly built home. Me and my wife and three daughters live here but all the kids go to school, me and my wife go to work so the house was totally abandoned at the time. So they had no right to come and just ransack, especially breaking down my front door. Now my front door is so insecure; I have to board it up tonight in order to sleep in the house tonight. I have two dogs and I had one my dogs lose because of the area that we live in—it’s a jungle that we live in—and it looks like they gun butted one of the dogs. I even took a picture of that because it looks like they gun butted one of the dogs because he probably was being aggressive you know.”

Delahnie Bain

“So what are you hoping will come out of this?”

Via Phone: Timothy August

“Well, the thing is I don’t know what was the purpose. I want them to give me a reason why they came to my house, why they broke into my house and ransacked my house. What were they searching for? What was the reason? And I also want to be compensation for repairs on my door. It’s a sixteen hundred dollars door, I just didn’t pick up that door you know what I mean?”

August says he went to the Dangriga police station to file a complaint but was told that they have nothing to do with the GSU Unit. He was told to check with Belmopan police or call the Commissioner.

This kind of reports are very disturbing because any one can be a victimized by the GSU… Remember when the GSU raided La Cabana in Belmopan, that was totally uncalled for, the GSU didn’t find anything incriminating, can Mr. Vidal prove in court where were those grounds of suspicion to raid La Cabana? and why was Mike Menjivar arrested for trying to defend his property and family?, when in fact it was the GSU that assaulted Mike Menjivar without battery, they were the ones that should have been disciplinary charge for excessive force. Now look again what they did to Timothy August in Dangriga, they aggrevated burglarized and damaged his home…they could had easily planted drugs and weapons on his property, the police doesnot need a search warrant to search for drugs but they don’t have the right to break into peoples house eighter, the police duty is to protect life and property but, it seems, that the GSU is totally opposite…Mr. Vidal feels that because the DPP is his wife, he can do anything and get away with it but not so, no one is above the law and yes I think that we need the GSU but only to tackle the gangs in the city but not the citizens…

What will happen when the GSU feels to go rape some girls inside their homes? No one can do anything!!! They are the law, what they do is the law !!! The girls just needed to be raped, period, no one can say or do anything !!!

  12. Manuel Almendar says:

I will vote PUP, they promised to dismantle the GSU and the PUC, lets hope and see, lets vote blue again.

The country was better off with Honorable Musa.

Tourist should be safe in Tourist Village. They come to spend money. Target the pushers not the tourist. If you are not a tourist or a vender then you have no business being there. The police should be able to control the drugs in that small of an area. How many tourist saw that confrontation and will go home and tell there friends about the police in Belize. I don’t think Walt Disney World would have handled the situation that way. I think an escort back to the ship would have been choice.

  14. BT says:

something sounds very fishy here… why would the GSU search a home when nobody was there? If they found anything illegal then what? Who could they arrest and charge? There is a reason why they bust down your door at 3AM, they want to catch you in possession of guns and drugs. Best time to make sure you are at home is come calling when you are fast asleep in your bed. Either this guy had a beef with some rogue cops, or the neighbour did it.

  15. joe says:

IF THE LAW DOES NOT STOP THE MAIN SUPPLIERS OF DRUGS & WEAPONS .OUR WHOLE COUNTRY WILL BE IN DANGER.ITS VERY SAD THEY GO AND SEARCH YOUR HOUSE .BUT IF THEY BELIEVE YOU ARE INVOLVED IN SUCH ILLEGAL ACTIVITYS THEY WILL COME FOR YOU.

  16. Charlie Price says:

THE POLICE SHOULD NEED A SEARCH WARRANT FOR ALL SEARCHES OF PROPERTY and PROBABLE CAUSE FOR PERSONAL SEARCHES….otherwise, WE LIVE IN A POLICE STATE.
