Francis shares platform for P.U.P.

Francis Fonseca

Francis Fonseca was today sworn in as Leader of the Opposition in the House and five days ago he took over the mantle of the P.U.P.  Fonseca is a former minister of government. On Wednesday he shared with us his platform moving forward in the P.U.P. and his passions as a leader.

Francis Fonseca, Leader of the Opposition

“I am someone who will bring, I believe humility to leadership—something that I believe is badly missing now in Belize. I want to change the tone of leadership in our country. I think today Belizeans are very discouraged to feel that we have a government and a leader of our country who is petty, he is very personal, who is confrontational. I want to change that. I’ve sensed that across the country people want a change in tone of leadership. They want someone who is humble, someone who is prepared to listen and that is the kind of leader that I want to be; someone who is prepared to sit down with people and find constructive solutions to the challenges that we face in this country. And I am a hard worker. That is what everyone that I have worked with will tell you. I will get each and every day and work hard for the Belizean people. The Belizean people will be my first and only priority, what is in their best interest? That is what I hope to do. And I want to bring a sense of urgency to the work of development. I think the reality is that as a people we have been far too complacent even though Belize is in my view way behind on the development curve, we remain very complacent. So I believe we need a leader that brings a sense of urgency to confront the challenges that we face as a nation. We have to deal with this crippling unemployment situation in Belize, the economy has been stagnant for a long time.  We have a crippling crime situation, the personal safety of our citizens is under attack. People want solutions to these problems. They’re tired of all this empty rhetoric, all of these personal attacks. They want solutions to these problems and that is what I hope to do, I want to bring a sense of seriousness, a sense of competence, honesty, integrity, compassion to the job as the leader of the People’s United Party and if given the privilege and honor by the Belizean people, to the office of the prime minister of Belize. That is my vision moving forward.”

Francis sounds like he want to take up some of the characteristics of George Price which is very good. And I think it may be even more better if every true supporter of the PUP put in his little bit to help with the financing of the elections. “It can be done folks, in unity there us strength. “One one full basket”. In that case no big bully will want to be pointing his finger in Francis face when he does not do the bully’s bidding. Lets get back to basics. The saying goes, “When the going get tough the tough get going”. Cant say that applied to Mark Espat. He chickened out. Give it your best shot Francis. Wish you all the best.

Hmm..It’s good that you realize that without humility you don’t even have a start.
Now, will it last and will it complete the job?

Now concerning Mark Espat, he didn’t/doesn’t have the support of those who got the PUP into trouble. Francis has! Lets hope Francis is as good as leader or better. In fact, he has to be a far better leader to be able to satisfy both the old PUP ‘trouble makers’ and the Belizean public in order to begin to think about dreaming to become the PM.

  3. Big Man says:

Well goodluck Francis u need at lease 10 more year to be the PM.

  4. Steve says:

That’s ur opinion only, BIG MAN. Life has surprises!!! From the look of things of how Barrow is governing, anything can happen. Check it out later!
