Duo charged for attempted murder of Justin Teck

Michael Gladden

Sixteen year old Justin Teck came within inches of death after he was shot to the head on September twenty-seventh. Almost a month later, the teen is recovering and today, twenty-one year old Michael Gladden was charged along with twenty-eight year old Mark Gentle for their alleged connection with the shooting. They appeared before Chief Magistrate, Anna Marie Smith, and were arraigned for Attempted Murder, Dangerous Harm, Use of Deadly Means of Harm as well as Conspiracy to Commit Murder.

All four charges are indictable, which means that Gladden and Gentle were automatically denied bail and have been remanded at the Central Prison until November twenty-fourth. Teck was shot during the lunch hour on the heavily trafficked Freetown Road. He was captured on amateur video as he attempted to lift himself from the pavement before the paramedics placed him inside an ambulance. He was rushed to the KHMH for treatment and the initial prognosis was grim, but Teck fought for his life and was eventually given a fifty percent chance of survival. The shooting was said to be as a result of a rivalry between the Victoria and Kelly Street gangs. Police investigations have led them to believe that Gladden was the gunman.
