6 receive bail at Supreme Court for alleged crimes

Irene Budd

It was a good day for at least six persons who were granted bail at the Supreme Court today. They included men, women and two minors who appeared this morning before Justice Adolph Lucas. But the best news was for twenty-four year old Nelson Diaz, who was accused in a robbery that occurred in Benque Viejo Del Carmen back in August.  Diaz and two other suspects were charged with robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery and when his attorney, Kevin Arthurs, took his bail application to court, he was surprised with the news that the charges were being withdrawn by the DPP’s office due to a lack of evidence. Diaz will be formally acquitted in the Benque Viejo Magistrate’s Court on October twelfth.

Mother and daughter, Irene Budd and Ormenia Pow, who were remanded to prison on September nineteenth also applied for bail today on charges of Attempted Murder, Dangerous Harm and Use of Deadly Means of Harm. Justice Lucas granted them bail of five thousand dollars each. The women allegedly attacked Gilbert Blair, when a long-standing dispute between the neighbors escalated to violence.

Justice Lucas continued the generosity when an application was presented for two sixteen year olds.  Since minors are not allow to sign bail, they were ordered to get two sureties in the sum of two thousand, five hundred dollars each before they could be released.  One of the minors is charged with Carnal Knowledge, while the other is accused of Possession of Unlicensed Firearm and Ammunition.

A B.D.F. soldier was also in the mix, seeking bail on a charge of possession of a firearm whilst under the influence of alcohol for an incident that occurred on September fifth. Twenty-six year old Daniel Carreas was granted bail of five thousand dollars and he is due back in court on November first.
