Murder of shopkeeper in Sandhill Village

On Tuesday night shortly before seven-thirty forty–three year old businessmen, Ernesto Myvette was shot several times and killed at his establishment, “Myvette’s Shop” on the Maskall Road.  Myvette was killed in what appears to have been a robbery when he was getting ready to close his store. The businessman’s nine millimeter licensed firearm is also missing. Police Press Officer, Fitzroy Yearwood says that that the latest murder victim was held up by three men.

Fitzroy Yearwood, Police Press Officer

“Well Andrea, police arrive on the scene a little after eight o’clock last night where they saw the lifeless body of Ernesto Myvette lying on the floor behind the counter of his shop. Initial investigations reveal that a relative of Myvette was at the shop with him and walked out towards the Northern Highway. That relative recalls passing three male, dark complexion men and he saw them go into the shop, at that time that person turned back but by the time that person turned back he heard several shots fired. Upon attempting to go back to the shop he was open upon, they fired shots at him and these three men made good their escape into the direction of the Northern Highway, mile nineteen on the Maskall Road. The three men made good their escape, Mr. Myvette unfortunately lost his life. The body was transported to the KHMH and pronounced dead on arrival nuh. The police are looking for three men in connection with this incident.”

“He was shot multiple times, to what areas of the body?”

Fitzroy Yearwood

“I know in the chest area, he was hit in the rib cage area, and to the lower back. What I must mention is that upon searching for Mr. Myvette’s licensed firearm the family member said that he couldn’t find it anywhere. So we believe that the culprits of this crime may have made good their escape with Mr. Myvette’s firearm. Whether or not the motive was solely robbery, at this time it’s undetermined. We are early into this investigation nuh.”

Andrea Polanco

“Has it been established if anything, if at any point the assailants made off with any money or any goods in kind from the store?”

Fitzroy Yearwood

“Well we are not sure about goods but the investigators believe that they may have made off with an undisclosed amount of cash as well as the firearm.”

Andrea Polanco

“An area of concern is that the response by the police was very late and I believe one of the points made is that the police in Ladyville don’t have a vehicle at this time?”

Fitzroy Yearwood

“With all honesty I will not respond to a question like that the fact remains the police officers went on the scene, they did their investigations and they’re still investigating it. I cannot comment on that that would be a question for officer commanding eastern division.”

No one has been detained in connection with this incident but there are reports that a car was spotted leaving the scene of the crime. The vehicle headed towards Burrell Boom and stopped near a resort in the area. At least two men were in the car and police are following all leads.

The killing will never stop in Belize, cause we don’t know how to stand up for ourselves. These stupid, good for nothing criminals will keep doing what they are doing because we will never stand up and speak out, on the other side of that, people will never talk, because the POLICE Dept, doesn’t understand what CONFIDENTIAL means. so, the criminals come back and kill the only tip the police might have had. Belizean Government needs to learn about protective custody, if they want to clean up these “bloody” streets!
