P.U.P. says U.D.P. attempting to attack democracy

Still on the Ninth, the Central Party Council of the People’s United Party met on Saturday. The meeting was twofold; to pay tribute to the father of the nation and to mark the sixty-first birthday of the P.U.P. At the meeting, a resolution was unanimously passed by the delegates from all constituencies. Its preamble says that since coming to office the U.D.P. has reneged on major manifesto promises, has been tampering with constitutional rights and that its latest attempt to destroy the democratic way of life has been masked in the Belize Constitution (Ninth Amendment Bill) under the guise of nationalization of public utilities. The resolution states that the Party’s solemn creed and objectives seek the maximum benefit for all Belizeans from public utilities, but to be so acquired legally and with reasonable compensation. The representatives voted to “reject the Ninth Amendment, 2011 and call all Belizeans to safeguard our democratic way of life by doing the sameBut Saturday’s meeting had its own share of the differences between the former party leader Said Musa and the current party leader John Briceño. In a statement in tribute to the Right Honorable George Price, Musa said that he was tired of hearing that the party was broke and that its vision was not articulated. Musa then identified education, health and social justice as the basic principles of the P.U.P.  Then came Briceño’s fiery response. He agreed that there was no money, but challenged all those who he claimed had made millions from the party to cut the cheques for the party’s coffers. Briceño said the monies didn’t belong in foreign bank accounts, but should be in the party’s bank account. Briceño wound up his speech with a call to arms and got a standing ovation.

Please Mr. Briceno, get the word out to all Belizeans. They need to be informed of the freedoms that will be taken away under the 9th Amendment. They might not agree with everything P.U.P says (I don’t), however, they should know where the country is headed. There is not much time left; freedom is hanging by a thread!

Does anyone actually take these clowns and this circus to be a real opposition and a government in waiting? They can’t even lead a party or unite a party and now they want to lead and unite a nation of diverse people and opinions.Unless Belizeans are crazy, the PUP should not be returned to Government anytime soon.

With all the hoopla and bruhaha about the PUP’s 61 st. birthday and its’ founding father, the late Hon. George C. Price, it is very sad to see the current state of economic affairs of the PUP coupled with the lack of meaningful leadership. Apparently after they have all enriched themselves, divided the party and drained it broke, they except that the common people who are the real loosers, to come forward and finance the poor leadership debacle of the PUP. Nevertheless, while there is a need for some fundemental changes in the current GOB and the way they conduct business, it would be a huge error to elect the PUP under its current leadeship. I totally agree if they cannot effectively run and unite a party how will they unite the nation and effectively run a government. Furthermore, they all have failed to acknowledge that the late Rt. Hon George Price died broken hearted and very dissapointed with the performance of the current and pass leadership for more than a decade. Belizeans need to wake up, and stand up for their rights. We don’t need capitalistic greed and arrogance to lead.

CG i totally agree with you, Every 5 years we “democratically” elect a dictator to “lead” the country. He becomes the absolute leader for the following 5 years. he has the power to give nationalities, land, passports, millionaire contracts etc…and now even to alter the constitution. Why don’t blue or red want a political reform? Why don’t blue or red stop the millionaire loans from social security to certain people, when it’s the workers money. Belize a democracy? what a joke!

  6. cccstudent says:

hhhhmmmm…….dis political rivalry needs to end it does not benefit blue or red. the ugly truth is that political mentality takes part in our decision of this law…. if ur red u go ok for it if you are blue you go against it..isnt dat ryt? take a chance and see what is happening from a mutual prospective… i cant vote and i still know its not matter if red or blue
