Kadejah Tunn named Miss World Belize 2011-2012

The other controversy doesn’t involve mangroves, it involves beauty queens. Seventeen year old Kadejah Tunn was named Miss World Belize 2011-2012, which means she will be representing the Jewel in the international pageant in London on November sixth. Only five delegates competed this past Saturday at the Miss World Pageant, whose franchise is now held by businessman Michael Arnold of the Corozal Free Zone. But what’s a pageant without controversy?  Since the winner was announced on Saturday night, several pageant goers have expressed dissatisfaction with judge’s decision. That is a matter of opinion, but there was a miscalculation in the scores for the second runner-up and the wrong delegate was announced at the pageant. A press conference was called today and Jessel Lauriano, the Spokesperson for the Miss World Belize Pageant, gave the corrected results and explained where the scoring went wrong. Lauriano emphasized that the mistake in no way affected the first and second place winners.

“Miss Tunn, a seventeen year old graduate of Edward P. Yorke High School in Belize City won the title of Miss World Belize 2011 and the golden opportunity to represent her country at the sixty-first Miss World Pageant from among four other candidates at the Miss World Belize Pageant, which took place at the Princess Hotel on Saturday, October first. Miss Tunn was also the judges’ choice for top model, beach beauty, Miss Photogenic and the optional segment, Most Talented. First runner up is Miss Chantae Guy of Belmopan; a nineteen year old student of the University of Belize, while Miss Ruth Salazar of Orange Walk Town; a twenty year old student of Muffles College is the second runner up. Miss Iris Chicas of Corozal Town was named by her fellow candidates as Miss Amity. The Miss World Belize Limited organization first announced at the event that the second runner up was Miss Ericia Brown of Belize City. This, however, was due to the optional talent segment being inadvertently graded for a prize and added to the total score of the participating candidates, which however was not to be, since Miss Ruth Salazar had used her option not to participate in the talent segment but was, as a result of this blunder, given a zero score for this segment. This is in compliance with the rules and regulation of Miss World International Contest. A further check of the scores revealed the blunder and an emergency meeting was called on Sunday with the relevant officials where the situation was remedied. The Miss World Belize organization sincerely apologizes for the confusion and assures the public that the talent segment scores never affected the standing of the winner, Miss Kadejah Tunn, or the first runner up, Miss Chantae Guy.”

Tunn’s prizes include three thousand dollars cash, an Associate Degree scholarship courtesy of U.D.P. Standard Bearer Mark King, one month weight training at Neal and Gordon Gym, one month spa treatment at the Royal Wellness Center and a round trip ticket to London for the Miss World International Pageant on November sixth.

ha ha ha ha ha….this story is just so funny!!!!!!!!! And at the same time, so very disturbing.

I wonder who did the choosing of the segments for the pageant night and the tabulation?! That is such a messed up format to agree with to choose a winner. Either a segment is included and graded or it should not be included at all!!!!!!!!!! This kind of negative publicity is certainly not what is needed for the winner or for the committee. With this kind of controversial format for eventually choosing the winner, and the resulting negative publicity, one has to ask, will the winner be formally accepted as a qualified candidate to really compete for the Miss Word title in London?

Apart from being beautiful young women, these ladies are ambassadors for our country and they must be given the opportunity to fully represent us abroad free from any hindrances. These pageant committees need to get their act together!

Congratulations to Ms. Tun, no doubt she is intelligent young woman and a qualified designate. I only hope she will truly get the chance to fully represent Belize at the Miss World Pageant.

I was a part of the audience Saturday Night and dont know any of the delegates persoanally I have a passion for pageants and always make it an effort to veiw pageants localy and internationaly. I beleive these judges who were selected for miss World Belize pageant were not qualified to do so, because Miss World International is a pageant who search for young ladies within a certain caliber such as height, intellect and social outreach. I always beleived that the question and answer part was always weighted heavily and The second runner up exceeded all delegates with her answer. I am in no way bashing Ms. Tunn as she is of no fault for being chosen as the winner it is the organizers who got these judges who had no idea wat to look for in a Ms World Representative for Belize. If we allow these organisers to handle these franchises with no regards to our young ladies these contreversies will always continue and in the long result our country will bever get the ability to place in these International Pageants.

I was also a part of the audience Saturday Night. Its 3 days after and I am still so upset and fed up of the way we handle issues here in Belize. What we did with this press release issued by not the Chairman Mr. Arnold nor Ms. Moya (who are partners in this franchise in Belize) is to cover the issue with a BLATANT LIE. I repeat it BLATANT LIE. I was there and witnessed not only family members but members of the audience question the Tabulator Mr. Hall if talent was added bc apparently it was not to be added as stated in the press release. Mr. Hall, the tabulator for the pageant, said that he DID add the talent and he didnt know he was not to add it. He mentioned that if the talent was not added that Ms Chantae Guy would have come out on top. Now how can just a few days later, a press release will come out and say the complete opposite i.e. that it still did not make a difference. I personally believe that with talent ot not Ms. Guy should have won this pageant. This press release only came out to save face and to avoid embarrassment. But what about Ms. Guy, who a great injustice was done to her. Who will stand up for her. I know the family and I will encourage them and i will encourage others to ecourage them to pursue this matter and to do whatever it takes to get this matter resolved. Fair is fair and its a matter of principle. Obtaining a copy of the event and sending it off to the Media would be a great way to start. Its a matter of principle and fighting for whats right and never and i repeat never giving up.

    Beautiful lady.

Good luck with the pageant in london

Big congrats to the Kadejah The New Miss World Belize! Give it up people… She won hands down! There’s a reason why you guys feel so differently was not a JUDGE. Now is the time to show some support and stop the what should of or could of… Talent added or not

As for the runner up…. She is a runner up for a reason! She should have came out on top with or without the talent being in place if she was good as you believe she is… Don’t you think so Evette? Get your facts right lady

Good luck Miss Tunn. You got the majority supporting you. Don’t feed into the negativity! Let heaters do they job HATE! You look so beautiful and was well brought up…You will always stands out young lady! You got a huge family love & support as well as many others. Best wishes!

  7. pageant goer... says:

I was at the pageant and was sitting up front in reserve so I got to See and Hear everything…from start to finish…I became concerned for the delegates from outside Belize City when I noticed all judges introduced by Belize City MAYOR MOYA were from Belize City and did not have experience judging pageant before. Not even one judge from outside the City. However when I saw how well Chantae from Belmopan was performing I was not that concerned because I thought that No way could all the judges be so bias just to rule in favor of a Belize City Candidate…but to all our surprise they did…The entire audience was stunned even the winner because she knew Chantae was performing better than her..true its not her fault but the MOST BEAUTIFUL, MOST INTELLIGENT, MOST GRACEFUL, candidate deserved to represent Belize. Its obvious she invested time in professional training . The holder of such a franchise should take these pageants more seriously and don’t hand them over to politicians….WHY DO WE ACCEPT THESE THINGS BELIZE….
