Latest police recruits graduate in Belmopan

Story PictureThis morning, the eighty-third recruit squad marched ceremoniously across the Arthur Adolphus Parade Square as they officially graduated from the Police Training Academy. Over the last six months, the seventy-three men and six women have endured intensive physical and mental training in technical and academic subjects so their last test was easy as the recruits have weathered two hurricanes and the storm of controversy that erupted over the Universal Health Services loan. Top cop in the class was Woman Recruit Constable Shani Alvarez.

“I know that I can make a difference. I won’t change Belize, but I know that I can help make a difference in this country to make Belize a safer place.”

Janelle Chanona
“What was the toughest part of your training?”

Shani Alvarez
“Well I wasn’t used to getting up that early, but as time progress I got used to it. That was the hardest part.”

Sixty-five members of the recruit squad will be posted in Belize City. The latest class takes the total number of active police officers to one thousand eighty-eight.
