Miguel Castillo, father of well known cyclist, murdered

Well known Santino cyclist Marlon Castillo has had his share of tragedy. Recently, Castillo was the driver in an accident that resulted in the fatality of his good friend Ariel Rosado. Castillo has been charged for that accident and he is now facing the loss of a close family member. His father, well known business Miguel Castillo, was killed on Thursday night in his driveway while most of his family members were waiting for him inside. News Five’s Andrea Polanco visited the bloody scene of Castillo’s murder.

Marlon Castillo

This is the property of the Castillo Family which marks the most recent murder scene in the city. It is the home of Marlon Castillo, one of the city’s most famous cyclists. But last night three killers waited for Marlon’s father, Miguel Castill to return home. They murdered him before he was able to exit his Ford pickup truck.

Sgt. Fitzroy Yearwood, Police Press Officer

“Well Andrea, we know that Mr. Castillo arrived home sometime around eight o’clock and he was not even allowed to exit his pickup truck. Three men ambushed him; they came out of the nearby bushes where they open fire on him.”

“Was the family at home?”

Sgt. Fitzroy Yearwood

“Well apparently family members were at home, but like I said they were hiding in nearby bushes but when Mr. Castillo arrived home they ambushed him. So to say they were in plain sight; it wouldn’t be like that.”

Fragments of broken glass still lie on the ground and on the passenger seat.  The shattered windshield tells the tale that he was shot at from the direction of the passenger. Those bullets reached their target, fatally wounding the forty eight year old businessman. The blood-drenched seats tell the tale of the shattered dreams that were held by the businessman and his family.

Sgt. Fitzroy Yearwood

“He received two shots to the right shoulder and one to the right side of the neck. He was transported by a family member to Karl Huesner where he succumbed to his injuries whilst undergoing treatment.”

But twenty hours later police are still trying to fit the pieces of the puzzle of the city’s latest killing. While speculation deems the crime as the byproduct of a robbery, police say they are not certain of the motive.

Sgt. Fitzroy Yearwood

“Well investigators are still trying to determine whether or not some of his personal effects are stolen. But at this time we do not see a clear robbery as a motive.”

Reporting for News Five, I am Andrea Polanco.

Police are asking the public’s assistance in solving this latest murder. So far there are no suspects.

My fellow Belizeans……. let it be known ….. or just a friendly reminder that we are living in a crime infested country with a government that is unable to provide any type of protection for it’s citizens. So……. be aware of your surroundings at all times and know who live on your streets from top to bottom. Arm yourselves if possible and teach your children about the new belize we are living in.Please remember that there are not that many criminals in Belize. We the law abiding citizens out number them ,so every chance you get to eliminate one do it. Your survival is at stake. As well as that of your children and your pets. There is a silent war going on in Belize.Remember…….LIVE FREE OR DIE !

Belize need a Punisher-type figure. We need the Los Pepes-type vigilantes to clean up this mess.

  12. Elgin Martinez says:

This Pm care less if these youths continue to kill each other, why do you all think he got Shyne out of Belize?

  13. Moses says:

Let’s not jump to conclusions. Consider the elements of a crime: robbery no; revenge (?).
My guess is that this murder was a hit. Someone will talk, 3 guys, one of them will start spending an unususal amount of money, gial friend or wife or pickni will get some new stuff. Keep your eyes open people.

  14. Belama Resident says:

this crime occurred a few blocks away from the Police Station that this UDP government refuses to open. The Chinese grocer practically infront of the police station has been robbed no less than six times in the past year. It has been almost ONE YEAR since the police station was closed down. when a crime makes the news, you will see a lonely police officer in a side room for maybe 2 hours during the day and thats it. the place is dark at night, the grass is overgrown. But knowing this vindictive crowd, in their warped minds they beleive they are punishing Francis Fonseca by not opening up the Station. you fools all the residents of belama, 1,2,3 and 4 are living in fear. this is the area of the city where the most construction is taking place and we can,t find money to fix the roof of the police station. but you can give 50 million of workers and pensioners money to buy BTL.

  15. DT says:

So much for the much publicised ‘Gang Ceasefire’!

Nothing will come of it, as the gangs are the ones that will do barrows dirty work, come the next electios (Local, district & national).

This marks that the ceasefire is over, and the security forces should now go in, gloves off and sort the lot of them out once and for all! Not just the Soutside either, majestic Alley (Musa’s Boys) should also be included in the final ‘clamp-down’ by the security forces.

no stones should be left unturned, and fast-track courts should be set in place to convict every one of them. The penalty for unlicenced firearms should be 10 years with no parole for each weapon, and 3 years for each round of ammunition, and NOT to run concurrently!

The penaly for attempted murder or aggrovated assault, interfering with a witness/jurer should be 15 years, no parole and the penalty for both murder and manslaughter should be life – absolutely no parole! It’s unlikely that the death penalty can be reestablished, as the jusdicial system is in such a shoddy state that any conviction would be questionable.

There should be a resounding shake-up of the DPP and preosecutors office, and penalties against staff responsible for cases being dismissed due to non-disclosure, lack of evidence, Police Officers not in court etc. Those penalties should include fines, or dismissal.

When a case goes to Supreme Court, the Prosecution should have their side 100% accurate, with not a single little gap for defence lawyers to open up and allow these murdering thugs to walk free! Anything less is not only unprofessional, and should result in dismissal, but a betrayal to all the law abiding, taxpaying Belizeans. It is we who should be able to walk our sretts without fear, and not the gangsters!!!
