P.U.P. supports Cane Farmers buyout of B.S.I.

There are now five expressions of interest for a buyout of the Belize Sugar Industries Limited, which is threatened by foreclosure if it doesn’t pay a debt to ING Bank by the end of the month. Earlier this week the Belize Sugar Cane Farmers Association announced that it had secured financing from the Sterling Group in Mexico to acquire majority shares in the factory. Today the People’s United Party issued a release in support of the Sugar Industry workers and cane farmers in their efforts to own and control B.S.I.  The P.U.P. expresses confidence that the B.S.I. employees and the cane farmers will work together to ensure optimum performance by improving the management of the industry and making production more efficient. The release ends saying “The next P.U.P. government will ensure that ownership and control of B.S.I. and the Sugar Industry at large remain in the hands of the cane farmers, workers and other Belizean stakeholders.”

I agree rebouy, PUP are only saying this for votes!

The Farmers shouldn’t buy out BSI, as if they did, the whole industry would collapse in weeks. They can’t work together as it is, and can’t supply quality sugar cane, so how on earth would they be able to run the Sugar Mill, marketing, Sales Export and Bargas????

Besides, anyone asked them where the millions of EU dollars in grants went?????

The BSI employees and cane farmers won’t work together – lok what happened when BSI introduced the Cane Tester? It was to ensure only good quality cane was purchased, to ensure lower production costs, and a better quality product. That better quality product would have increased exports, and improved the quality of our local sugar. But NO! The cane Farmers rioted, and had the thing removed. Cutting off their noses to spite their faces. Oh, who was behind them then? Oh yes, the PUP!!!!!!
