Attention all cross border travelers; Embassy of Mexico September hours

The calendar for September Celebrations is filled with activities this month. Central America and Mexico are also celebrating their national days in this month. The festivities are causing a shift in consular activity and most Belizeans who travel north to Mexico will face a change in working hours of the embassy. News Five spoke to Rene Santilan, Consular Affairs Officer, who also said that Belizeans should try to get the border card which will allow them to bypass the long lines when they cross the border at Subteniente Lopez.

Rene Santilan, Consular Affairs Officer, Embassy of Mexico

Rene Santilan

“During the September sixteenth we will be closed because it is a holiday of Mexico; it’s the Mexican Independence Day. And after that on September twenty-first we will also be closed because of Belize’s Independence. And as usual we will be opened the following working day at the same hours from nine to twelve and we will be providing the documentation required for the people that need to travel to Mexico or visit Mexico for any reason.”

Jose Sanchez

“Many people aren’t aware how difficult or easy it is to access the border cards.”

Rene Santilan

“No if the people make plans, it is not complicated to obtain the document—it is free of charge in any case. They must provide the documents needed. In this case, you must remember it is only for Belizean these kinds of cards.”

Jose Sanchez

“So what do they need to bring? A passport? Anything else?”

Rene Santilan

“Yes basically they need to present their passport—the original and a copy of the main page—two photos size ID and be on time. If they don’t have passport, they need to present birth certificate—an original plus a copy and original identification plus a copy, two photos and remember in the case of the minors, need to be present two parents to sign.”

Another advantage of the border card is that holders can stay in the state of Quintana Roo for three days without visas.

Can you get these border cards at the Embassy in the City?!!? Cause I always heard you can only apply for them at the border and they only take 30 ppl a day!!! Why is it so difficult for Belizeans as is to get across the border!! On any given day you have to wait over 30 minutes in a long line with only 1 Mexican immigration officer working!!! They know we go across why are they making it more difficult!!!!
