Roberto Garcia

Belize won three-nil over two-time World Cup qualifier Grenada in St. George on Friday. But the national team, which returned to the country over the weekend, had no time to celebrate that victory. The local boys were back on the green today, gearing up for a tough game against Guatemala who over the weekend beat St Vincent and the Grenadines, four goals to nil.  It is a historic game, bringing to the jewel, the first Guatemala team, for an international match. Earlier today, that Guatemalan national selection was practicing at the M.C.C. stadium. The Guatemalan Press also accompanies their national team to provide coverage to millions of citizens. News Five spoke to a television journalist and the team’s director about expectations for Tuesday’s long anticipated matchup.

Roberto Garcia, Journalist, Channel 3 Guatemala

“Football is the first, most important sport and it’s more than sports it is a cultural social activity. All the country expect that round to world cup. The Guatemala team is strong when the travel is long, but become Belize is easy for distances short. In my opinion is Guatemala favorite in this match, because of history and statistics.”

Jose Sanchez

Is there any particular players that you’ve heard of on the Belize team that will make you worry?”

Roberto Garcia

“In this team has Freddy Garcia. Freddy goal scoring in 2000 from Belize in Honduras, Gonzalo Romero; the two players not in the initial line up, but in the titulares, Mario Rodriguez, he played on the MOS and Marco Papa, he played in the Chicago Fire.”

The game starts at four p.m. tomorrow but live coverage on this station begins at three-thirty. Tickets cost thirty dollars today but they will go on sale for forty dollars on Tuesday at Yim Saam Restaurant and Hotel which is adjacent to the football stadium.
