Wanted for murder in Guatemala; fugitive caught in P.G.

A Guatemalan National who was wanted for murder in his country, fled across the border to avoid the long arms of the Guatemalan police. But the suspect was busted over the weekend in Punta Gorda.  On Saturday, Garcia was arrested by three uniformed Belize police officers who promptly handed him over to the Guatemalan police officers. We spoke with Public Relations Officer in the Ministry of Police and Public Safety, Raphael Martinez, who says that the arrest is not unprecedented and comes as part of the tri-border agreement, which aims to increase regional security.

Can armed law enforcement people from Belize go into Guatemala for one of our own? IF yes then I support this move.Armed police from Guatemala were in Punta Gorda .No pictures were shown of armed Belizean police.I don’t believe they even have guns.I was told that the Belizean police have to purchase their own weapon if they want to carry one.In thie day and age I can’t find any country where the Police mean and women are not fully armed.Supposedly, Belize is too poor to arm the police. But government officials drive nice vehicles, own nice homes and take care of family and friends. As well as a Prime Minister who enjoys a great life.Belizeans are fools.

As residents of either Belize or Guatemala, we as a people with sense even though our leaders or agreements may not coincide…with what happens behind the scenes..should we allow fugitives to lurk in our country who eventually might commit other criminal acts in Belize…I DON’T THINK SO!!!! whatever action taken by the local authorities in PG and elsewhere is good for the resident of that locality because another criminal has been taken out of our street and our our country..who cares whether there is any agreement for the exchange of prisoners between both countries..this is an indication that both countries/leaders should be looking at because many Guatemalans living in Belize are hiding from crimes committed in that country..just like Belizeans after they have committed crimes here they go to either Mexico or Guatemala..if your memories can recall..the robbery of the bank in Spanish Lookout..what happen to the robbers, they fled into guatemala and Honduras..one of them was captured in Guatemalan and he was handed over to the Belizean authorities..that was very helpful of the Guatemalan authorities..and that is an indication that both authorities are fighting crimes and also developes the working relationship between both authorities..some of us Belizean we dont known what we want..we dont attemtp to see the good in certain things but we are ready and quick to criticize the good intended action of others..
for the border authorities KEEP UP THE GOOD WORKING RELATIONSHIP WITH OUR COUNTERPARTS ACROSS OUR BORDERS…
