Slippery youth slips out of police custody but caught again

Ellis Meighan Jr.

Police fired a single warning shot in the air in the Gwen Lizarraga High School compound on September second, while pursuing nineteen year old Ellis Meighan into the school grounds. Police say they spotted Meighan Junior in the vicinity and because he acted suspiciously, they pursued him. Meighan fled and jumped over the school fence but it was the quick intervention of an employee that led to his detention and incarceration. Meighan, however, proved to be fast and slippery and subsequently escaped from a police vehicle. During the weekend he was picked up again in Belize City. Today he appeared before Magistrate Edd P. Usher and was read a single charge of Escape from Lawful Custody. He pleaded not guilty to the charge and was offered bail in the sum of one thousand five hundred dollars plus one surety of the same amount. Meighan junior has several charges pending before both Magistrate’s and Family Court dating back to when he was a minor. Ellis Meighan Junior is due back in court on October thirty-first for trial.
