One man dead in evening shooting; while a minor is hospitalized

Just before six this evening, a shooting took place at the corner of Berkeley Street and East Canal in the old capital. From what we have been able to gather, there are two victims, thirty year old Maurice Neal, a welder, and ten year old Denesha Cadle.  Neal man was smoking cigarettes he had just bought at a Chinese shop when the gunman came up and unleashed a barrage of bullets. According to one eyewitness, Neal fell to the ground and the gunman then emptied the remaining bullets on him. He died shortly after. The young girl had just left the Chinese shop; she was injured on the foot and hand and was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. According to her mother, Cadle is in a stable condition. We’ll have more details as they become available.

This is another loss for Belize. Maurice Neal is a humble young man who has lead a productive life. He is the nephew of late attorney Norman Neal and I can attest to him going to his uncle’s house every night to sleep and take care of his uncle while he was ill until he passed.

Besides his young family, Maurice was not known to keep many friends and as far as I know, he was a hard worker.

When this year began I asked – what will we do different this year to solve or curtail the violence in our streets to the minimum. Obviously the answer is NOTHING!

GOB is parading a bunch of people around who ramble a bunch of nonsense but their work has not borne any fruit. I believe that to be so because Government continues to practice nepotism and cronyism and not hire the people who have technical skills to do the job – I speak of that bogus RESTORE Belize business. It is nothing but a posture, talk and get paid hustle for those who are involved.
WE ARE PAYING A HIGH PRICE WITH INNOCENT LIVES OUT HERE! Maurice, has a young wife and very young children….this is the FOURTH MAN IN HIS THIRTIES TO DIE IN THE PASS WEEK!
This screams to heaven to STOP they hypocrisy about crime. Seems that since the PM’s law partner has recovered he doesn’t care at all about addressing this virulent problem.
