Consultation begins with masses outside

As we said earlier, the first round of consultations on the proposed ninth amendment is taking place in the city at this time. Citizens turned out in numbers and there’s not even standing room at the Holy Redeemer Parish Hall where strict security measures are in place. Persons were checked and frisked on arrival and the gates were closed promptly at seven o’clock. On the government’s side, Minister John Saldivar is leading the charge in support of the constitutional amendment along with area reps Anthony “Boots” Martinez and Ramon Witz. On the P.U.P. side, its leader John Briceño is joined by area rep Florencio Marin Jr. and will oppose the amendment. Many U.D.P. party supporters were allowed in and many others were turned back because the hall is overflowing. We’ll have much more in Thursday’s newscast.
