Carnival Association donates motorcycle to police

Story PictureThere’s no doubt that the Belize Carnival Association runs a great series of events each September…but today the Association was in the news, not because they are jumping up, but because they are making a donation. That gift took the form of a 150 cc motorcycle for the police Prosecution Branch. It was presented to Senior Superintendent Chester Williams by Carnival Association president Patrick Thompson.

Patrick Thompson, President, Belize Carnival Association
“From all the funds we received we had extras and that is how we purchased this bike that we are donating today to the police department.

Stewart Krohn
“Was this the plan all along or was this something that juts came up sudden?”

Patrick Thompson
“It just came up. As our way of saying thanks to the police for the hard work that they have given to us in running the carnival season well we decided to give back something to the police department.”

Sr. Supt. Chester Williams, Deputy O.C., Eastern Division
“The motorcycle will be used to enhance the effectiveness of the police Prosecution Branch section as the Prosecution Branch section is a branch that works on a daily basis and one of its primary function is to ensure that witnesses who are to appear in court are served in a timely manner with summonses in order to go to court. And that unit has been short in terms of mobility and with the addition of this motorcycle to that unit we believe that it will enhance the services. We have areas within Belize City that are quite a distance to walk or even on bicycle like the Belama and the Buttonwood Bay area. And we will also be focusing on the rural Belize district because we have witnesses who come to the city and became victims of crime and they live outside of Belize so the unit will now have the capability like in Ladyville, Hattieville, eight miles and have those summonses served on those persons in a timely manner.”
