Unofficial Football Federation officially playing game in Honduras

The National Sports Council met on Saturday and unanimously voted not to register the Football Federation of Belize. Notwithstanding, the second leg of competition between Belize and Montserrat in a World Cup 2014 pre-qualifying series is set for Sunday in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. The NSC decertified the Football Federation of Belize, but FIFA has lifted a temporary ban allowing the game to take place in Honduras because government did not want to provide security for the game to be played in Belize. At the meeting held on Saturday, the NSC determined that it will not approve the statutes of the F.F.B. based on what it says are four anomalies found in its statutes. Before the National Sports Council released the outcome of Saturday’s meeting, News Five spoke to Vice President of the F.F.B., Bernaldino Pech, who said that much hasn’t changed since the Supreme Court determined that there was no need to proceed with an injunction, because of Saturday’s meeting.

Bernaldino Pech

“We understand that from the affidavit on Friday in court we were told that the Sports Council was to have a meeting on Saturday.  We understand that they did but we haven’t gotten any official report from what transpired at that meeting.”

“In terms of trying to mend fences with regards to the court action that was taken recently which was subsequently withdrawn, are you guys still at an impasse in terms of getting registered and being in the good books, so to speak?”

“That was what we wanted the court to basically rule on.  We don’t understand what the delay is because from our reading of the Sports Act and from our attorneys as well there shouldn’t be any problem whatsoever.  Once the documents were in we should have been able to settle automatically but that doesn’t seem to have happened and that’s really why we had been to court to have them declare a ruling on.  Unfortunately the judge has seen it fit to do that as yet.”

“Now in terms of the preparation going into Sunday’s match against Montserrat in Honduras, how is that coming along?”

Via Phone: Bernaldino Pech

“Well we have had a pre-meeting [and] we’ve spoken with all the players and we are preparing them.  We know they’ve been through a lot as well mentally so we’re trying to get them refocused and we are positive that our boys will be able to handle the pressure and we’ll be able to put up a good showing on Sunday.”

Belize defeated Montserrat by a score of five goals to two in game one which was played at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Trinidad on June fifteenth.  While Montserrat has been regarded amongst the lowest ranking teams in FIFA the victory, nonetheless, has placed Belize the closest it has ever been to a World Cup seed.  Its suspension meanwhile has been lifted until August fifteenth when it is expected that the deadlock between F.F.B. and the National Sports Council should have been resolved.

It would be nice to get a charter plane to go see the game and return when the game is finish. It is a shame to have our boys play in another country those people need to stop playing and let Fifa deal with their own money it is not Government money so let it be.

  3. Happy says:

Respect the laws of Belize Mr. FFB. There was enough time to hand in the constitution of your federation. You did not do it and now expect the NSC board to drop everything and deal with your case. Not so, you arrogant …… Just step down for the love of the game. Just go go go!!!

  4. oscar965 says:

We must sacrifice now…so that football can get better in Belize. Football under Chimilio has not improved…the only improvement has been for Mr. Chimilio himself. He needs to go…and so if we have to sacrfice now..we should..for the sake of better football in the future. Do not give up sports council..keep the pressure up…

  5. Elgin Martinez says:

What is a fact is that the Belize Team has secured a victory under Chimilio’s management. While Dean Barrow on the other hand can’t even secure the streets of Belize City from the cold blooded murderers.

  6. Earl Grey says:

and………THE PLAYERS NEED SOME HEALTH INSURANCE………FOR STARTERS.

ABOVE ALL WE NEED A DECENT FOOTBALL STADIUM surrounded by seats, FOR 10,000 at least WITH ADEQUATE FACILITIES AND PARKING.

WE NEED A DECENT FIELD TO HOST HOME GAMES.

MINISTER OF SPORTS…. WE NEED A PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL FIELD SURROUNDED BY A TRACK and adequate seating. The private sector should invest in such…..if no one else.

BUILD IT …………….AND THEY WILL COME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. Nolbert Moss says:

Chimilio, go win the game, come back to Belize and correct the four (4) anomalies the National Sports Council found in FFB’s Statutes, normalize the FFB’s status, and prepare for the next round of CONCACAF qualifiers for Brazil 2014. Next election, we will deal with you.

  8. belizeanrebel says:

Belizeans, this is not about who gives money to whom and what….Chimilio gets millions for the development of football in Belize and what have we to show for it??? We are down in the standings, we are constantly criticized and made fun of in the international media- is that development??? We played mexico, yes, but Chimilio did not do a thing for it!!! We played on of the most shitin teams out there and by luck of the draw we played the giant!!!

Whe we get 9 zero 8 zero…its belize, the country!! Not chimi!!! Chimi just goes laughing all the way to the bank!!! Hey players….remember the news clip when uno couldnt cash uno cheques??? Hmmm??? Make sure uno collect ina cash!!!

  9. Phil Middleton says:

I agree with Earl Grey one hundred percent. The minister of sports should direct his energy and resources to get a top notch sporting facility for the games to be played in Belize instead of taking personal issues with the FFB. It is a damn shame that the entire country does not have a respectable facility to showcase for any sport.
