Forger sells Zabaneh and Pie Marin’s Island

Israel ‘Pie’ Marin

There are numerous reports surfacing about corrupt land practices that involve what appears to be a well established ring. Belize City businessman Israel ‘Pie’ Marin, manager of Belize Diesel and Equipment Ltd., is one of many victims of the land scams.  Marin filed a report back in May, but it has just made it to the police blotter. He did not wish to appear on camera, but provided details of how a caye belonging to him was sold off without his knowledge. On May seventh while on a trip to South Water Caye, Marin detected that smoke was emanating from an island he co-owned with businesswoman Rosella Zabaneh.  When Marin checked on the cause of the fire, he found out that Bikini Caye had been cleared of debris and that coconut trees had been planted on the small island.  A week later Marin discovered that Bikini Caye which is situated nine miles east of Dangriga had been sold by Lindsborg Williams to Kings Company Ltd.  The initial owners deny having sold the property and further investigation into the matter revealed that on March tenth Satuaye Mejia, a resident of Dangriga, produced a land title transfer signed by both Marin and Zabaneh in the sum of twenty thousand dollars.  Mejia then proceeded to sell the island to Williams for twenty-five thousand dollars.  By May third the property was again sold to Kings Company Ltd. for the same purchase price.  Marin and Zabaneh have since refuted any transaction made with anyone for the property including Mejia and that their signatures had been forged on the conveyance.  Dangriga police are now looking for Mejia who has since gone on the lam.

Just when you think it just cant get any worse in Belize it does. What happens to notary, I thought on land deals papers had to be notorized. What next somebody will sell the country to the highest bidder.

  4. Justice says:

Always wondered how he got so wealthy in so short a time. Not sure how he got possession of the caye so it makes you wonder if easy comes easy goes!

  5. mylegacyb4mypeople says:

The UDP government does not make these transactions any safer when they have made rules at the lands department requiring that for you to get information on property ownership you have to get a signed authorization from the property owner, common this should be public information, I guess this is one way of hiding the ill gained assets of the politicians. Remember My Legacy B4 My People.

  6. Get it right says:

All land documents must be signed by at least a Justice of the Peace. They need to find the JP as well because no JP should sign a document if the people didnt sign the document in front of them. They sign as a witness that the signature is indeed for the said person and that it is true and correct. Either the JP has received part of that money or was negligent in his duty as a Justice of the Peace.

Funny how crooks cry foul play when they get beat at their own game. What goes around comes around & we reap what we sowe sooner or later. He that hath an ear let him hear.

  8. Undecided says:

This very thing can happen to anybody, rich or poor so to all the idiotic people who think this is funny, be sure it doesn’t happen to you or your family. I noticed that “ANYBODY” da JP now so it doesn’t surprise me at all, they probably forged that too. This country is too slack and needs to do better than this!!!!

  9. B Groovy says:

  10. Belizean Truth says:

These types of incidents must always be brought to the public to show what kind of corruption is going on in our public institutions. If we all turn a blind eye to these things it will continue to happen until you are personally affected, then suddenly we are supposed to change the system. Open your eyes and notice this is one incident out of many reported in the past and possibly in the future until we make a change. Don’t sit back and let it happen until you are the victim to do something about it.
