Family of 9 gets 3 days locked up for bullets

John Fuller Jr.

A family of nine, including three minors, spent three days in lockdown and appeared in court on charges for rounds of unlicensed ammunition that were found in their yard on Neal’s Pen Road. Eighteen year old John Fuller was not among the group of accused persons, but he appeared in court on Monday, claiming that the bullets were his. When his guilty plea was rejected, Fuller stormed out of the courtroom, breaking three glass louvers on his way out. Today Fuller was charged with Damage to Property and immediately pleaded guilty. He was fined three hundred dollars to be paid by August fifth or, in default, he will spend three months in prison. Meanwhile, Yvonne Meyers, Alrick Olivera, Kenrick Olivera, Byron James, Albert Bowen and four minors are on remand for the ammunition until July twenty-fifth when they are to reappear in court.

How in the world you can put minors in jail just because of the parents. This is so rediculos is this not violation of international law. Let me say this cops in belize are not educated enough to know what they are doing? I would say that they do what they think is best for the children. They put these children in jail and not knowing that these children do not understand the reason behind the charges.

I wonder where the the children rights advocates are?? Sitting on their laurels somewhere, and allowing the children the be held accountable for their parent’s actions? come on. They are children, and they have rights just like and other citizen in the country. How can there be such a law upheld, where children are punished for the action of their parents? They have no choice, as to the sorroundings they want to be raised in. Children Rights Advocates, now is the time to hear your voices.
