Twenty-six year old Orlando Rodriguez, a resident of St. Matthew’s Village, was murdered in front of R&D’s Supermarket on Sunday.  He had been socializing along with a few friends around five o’clock in the evening when they visited Frank’s Eddy Village.  While here the men got into an altercation with several other patrons which ended in an all out brawl.  When it was over Rodriguez had been hit in the head repeatedly with a concrete block in the parking lot where he fell to the ground unconscious.  Araceli Palma was inside her diner when the scuffle began.

“We were here—me and my mother-in-law—making burritos and then the big guy that came in here told us to serve him some rice and beans with stew chicken and flour tortilla. We served him the food and he eat it right here. Then the three guys came in here and he started talking with them. Then the bwai who was eating come pay his bill and he left. When come out from the kitchen, we see the big guy right there with a bottle and the next one and two of them were fighting. Then my mother-in-law told me to close the door cause they will throw bottles. We were making more orders when I heard that wah bwai with black shirt hit the guy in his head with a block.”

Moments before the altercation Rodriguez had entered the grocery store to purchase alcohol.  He was followed shortly after by Guillian Hernandez, a fellow resident of St. Matthew’s Village.  Cashier Valentine Polanco was behind the cash register when he took notice of what was about to happen.

Valentin Polanco

“No. one came first and then another one while this one was going.”

“You were mentioning earlier that both of them were drinking.”

Valentin Polanco

“Actually yeah. One came to buy a beer and the next one as well, but while one was coming, the other was going. But they went through there and I am not sure what they were saying but then both of them started to fight—I don’t know why.”
