Accused found not guilty of rape

Kareem Williams

A man accused of rape and robbery was found not guilty this evening by a jury of five women and four men. Deliberation lasted four hours and the decision was unanimous in the case against twenty-seven year old Kareem Williams. The jury had doubts about Williams’ identity because he pointed out to the court that he was in an identification parade with eight other men, who did not match the description. During trial, the forty-two year old victim testified that between seven-thirty and eight p.m. on October seventh, 2009 she was on her way home from a nearby in north side, Belize City when a man with dreads approached her on bicycle. He drew a gun from his pants waist, pointed at her head and threatened to kill her if she made noise. The man ordered the victim to remove her pants, pushed her to the ground and raped her on the street side. Williams was also accused of stealing the woman’s gold ring, chain and a cell phone. Williams also testified, but claimed that from five o’clock that evening he was with family and friends drinking at a yard on Supal Street. He was unrepresented, but called two alibi witnesses; a friend and a cousin who testified that were drinking with Williams until after nine that night. The trial was heard before Justice Adolph Lucas and the Prosecutor was Yohhahnseh Cave.

  1. Justice says:

How reliable are the witnesses? This happens all the time and these rapist get free. If I was the family I would fix it like Barrow and castrate him. If the pm can get away with ignoring laws so can we….

  2. BZNinCALI says:

Of course we can look at him & tell that he is innocent & would not lie or have his family & friends lie for him. What happened to the Forensic lab that was promise. That would have given the jury one less excuse to let him back on the streets to behave like a dog in rutting season.,,,allegedly.

  3. DVCJD says:

This happens every time that is why Belize has a lot of crime. some day this will happen to our family and then we will know what is to accuse someone and then he is free.
