Belize Communication Workers Union members will work in best interest of BTL

And as you have heard in this newscast, Dean Boyce has set up an office as executive chairman of Management Committee of Telemedia. Late this afternoon, on behalf the Board of Directors, Boyce announced the appointment of Martha Molina as C.E.O. of the company. Martha and her husband Dean Molina, were both fired from Telemedia. She was the head of human resources and he was legal advisor. As to the Net Vasquez board, Boyce says that given the ruling of the court of appeal, they have never been validly appointed and the previous Board is back in place. According to Boyce, the Government of Belize through the police and Vasquez and his management team are now attempting to prevent the lawfully appointed board of BTL continuing the business of the company.  Such actions amount to a wholly arbitrary confiscation of the property of the shareholders of BTL, whose numbers include BTL employees and ordinary Belizeans.

So what is happening at Telemedia headquarters on the first work day following the ruling of the court of appeal? This morning we saw a number of employees reporting to work. The Belize Communication Workers Union which represents a huge block of employees issued a statement. Says the union “with the twenty-fourth of June 2011 court of appeal judgment in the constitutional case surrounding the acquisition of Belize Telemedia Limited (BTL), a veil of insecurity has descended across the company. During this period of uncertainty, the union will act in the best interest of its members and its shareholding interest in the company.” So there you have it; there are two boards, two C.E.O.s and government is now saying it will go all the way to fix the problem.
