Football Federation of Belize prepares for Belize Vs Montserrat

Bertie Chimilio

There is some sporting news that can’t wait until James Adderley’s Sports Monday. Belize’s Under Sixteen basketball team is in Mexico City playing in preliminary rounds against other Central American countries.  Unfortunately, the local boys lost eighty to one hundred and eight against a formidable team from Puerto Rico, which had already put a trashing on the Guatemalan national team. Most of the points scored for Belize were by Tree-Anthony Moses, Tariq Middleton, Kyle Middleton, and Kirklann Smith. And while the boys prepare to rebound from the loss, in another sport that is grounded on green fields, the president of the Football Federation of Belize visited our studios to give an update on Team Belize’s progress. The team won on Wednesday in a home and away series against Montserrat which was held in Trinidad and Tobago. Bertie Chimilio said that the Montserrat team missed the connecting flight and will spend the night in the U.S. But they will arrive in Belize on Friday along with the national selection.

Dr. Bertie Chimilio, President, Football Federation of Belize

“I want to say first of all; thanks to god for everything, for the strength, the health to do what we have to do. It is a great feeling—we won five two yesterday. In the opening of the world cup, Deon McCauley scored three goals in a first game for a world cup qualifier. So on the road to World Cup 2014, we’ve made history already and we hope we could continue making history starting this Sunday and continue on in September, October and November of this year. But it’s a great feeling; all we’ve worked for all these years is now paying off.”

Jose Sanchez

“I know it’s a great opening and we’re hoping for a win on Sunday, but how many people can the stadium in Belmopan accommodate?”

Dr. Bertie Chimilio

“Well we can only accommodate four thousand people, sitting; but I guess we can accommodate another thousand standing up. Nonetheless, we are hoping that Belizeans come out—it’s only fifteen dollars—come and cheer on your team despite political problem we may be going through. But like everything else, the problems are for the administrators and we just got to deal with that but the players are ready and willing to play.”

Jose Sanchez

“Now what time is the game and if you can’t make it out, is there any other way we could keep in touch with the game?”

Dr. Bertie Chimilio

“We want everybody to come out and support. The game is at four p.m. on Sunday and we’ve been made to understand that channel five will be broadcasting live, but we’ll wait and see if they give them permission to go.”

According to Chimilio, the Sunday game in the Capital will go as scheduled. And since the Ministry of Sports has distanced itself from the F.F.B., it came as no surprise that the government has informed the F.F.B. that it will not be providing security for Sunday’s game. Notwithstanding, the F.F.B. says it will be making other security arrangements.

I am really disollusioned by what the should be minister iof sports had to say on channel 7 news, i was expecting his idiotic remarks so it came as no suprise. however, why is it that when a little power is given to an ignorant man he let it go to his head? john saldiva$$ seem hurt because sergio, was not elected to be the president of the FFB. PLEASE grow up , the comment he made that monseratt was the last place team is so childish, no matter what as a belizean he should be proud of the players regardless of who is in charge. it was not bertie that played . these players worked hard to accomplish this feat, and my hat goes off to them, if saldiva does not have what it take to realize that in life you win or lose, “and he is a loser” then he need to get his head out of his rectum and step down from the sports ministerial position, and let someone who has more sense take over. it just goes to show in life one can try to fix things when it is not working, but in john’s case you cannot fix “STUPID”
