Ex cop shot at by Gang Suppression Unit

The violence in the movie portrayed real life, and the following report could have also been scripted for the screen.  Tonight, ex-police officer Dennis Card is on remand at the Hattieville Prison after being charged with Aggravated Assault and Kept Unlicensed Ammunition.  Both charges come on the heels of a shooting incident on Thursday evening in which Gang Suppression Unit personnel on mobile patrol opened fire on Card as he rode his bicycle along Neal’s Pen Road.  This afternoon Card’s mother stopped by our office to give the family’s account of what transpired.  According to Victoria Claunch, the ammunition was allegedly planted on her son.

Voice of: Victoria Claunch, Mother of Shooting Victim

“My son mi deh pan Neal’s Penn Road and it look like ih mi have some weed in ih possession. And GSU saw him and they chase him and he swallowed the weed and because he swallowed it they couldn’t get the weed. So by him running, they shot him in his foot. Because they couldn’t have a reason for shooting him, they plant some bullet on him and they took him to the station and charged him for aggravated assault because they said he had some scissors. If he was assaulting them, I think they would have beat him up very bad like the guy they showed on the news—[how] his face was.”

Card was barely able to walk when he was being escorted to court this morning.  The dried blood on his wound suggested that he had not received medical attention while he was in detention.  The twenty-year-old who was unrepresented when he appeared before the Chief Magistrate pleaded not guilty to the charges and was remanded to prison.

    Thanks GSU,
The criminals won’t like the hard stand you are taking. I strongly support this unit because it has been removing drugs, ammunition, and criminals off the streets.

When the police can open fire on an unarmed person riding a bicycle while posing no threat to the police officers or anybody else – YOU JUST MIGHT BE LIVING IN A POLICE STATE.
