Police woman Nicholette Bermudez charged with theft

Nicholette Bermudez

A police woman was also before the court today, facing charges for stealing jewelry and other items from Julissa Westby, who was detained back in March. Westby’s complaint led to the speedy arrest of Special Constable Andrea Rivero and today twenty-nine year old WPC Nicholette Bermudez was charged with Theft. Bermudez appeared unrepresented before Magistrate Kayla Tech and pleaded not guilty to the charge. She was offered bail in the sum of one thousand, five hundred dollars which she met this afternoon. Bermudez is also on interdiction, which means she will receive only half of her pay from the Police Department while the case is before the courts. The officers are accused of stealing a Blackberry phone, a gold chain and two pairs of gold earrings, which have a total value of one thousand, five hundred and seventy-five dollars. Bermudez comes back to court on July seventh.

Stealing is only one of the ugly sides of the police habits in Belize; this is not a shock doc. Chop her hands off see if I care. Who will protect us from the sleazy police when they commit crimes and murders against us? Belize need an underground movement.

SEND THEM TO THE PRISON FARM TOO…….THERE THEY CAN BE PRODUCTIVE and contribute to society AT NO COST TO TAX-PAYERS.

THEY CAN BAKE BREAD FOR SCHOOL LUNCHES……..OR THE VERY LEAST….. BE MADE TO CLEAN UP THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAYS.

Many of the constables on our force are corrupt. A recent incident occurred to me where my business establishment was burglarized and an ex-employee stole my main computer. He was caught on Camera and three officers sat with me to review the tape and they all identified the person. We eventually got him to return my computer and he was arrested and charged. I was told that he would face 3 years imprisonment. This occurred on a Friday, only to find out that on Monday, the guy is walking the streets again. When I ask the police what happened, guess what was the officers response…”he was charged for handling stolen goods and fine $1000.00. That the video was not admissible in court and a pile of balony. How will we ever combat these problems we are facing if the police we depend on are corrupt? You all know what happened here right? the police saw an opportunity to make some money off the ex-employee who was detained for a lesser charge. We have a major problem in this country and some serious changes needed. I have had enough of trying to fight situations like this in my country. I won’t join the corruption but I just don’t care anymore and have decided to leave and find a better place to live!!

This is just one of many in the police department that need to be arrested. I hope they have arrested the right person, though, because from my first hand experience I know that some thieves falsify the books to show that the items went missing during the previous shift or that they did hand over the items to the succeeding shift. A proper and impartial investigation is always necessary to get the correct culprit.

It’s such a shame what these people are doing when they’re suppose to be the one upholding the law.
