What do the squatters and bus protestors have in common? Mexico!

While the support from the Belize Bus Association (BBA) appeared to have been based on solidarity with fellow protestors, there was also another motive.  One spokesperson for bus operators, Patrick Menzies, accompanied the BBA president to the police station this afternoon to support Yolanda Schakron. As a reference point, Menzies did not mince words when he made several demands at Prime Minister Dean Barrow’s Press Conference at the Matalon Building on Friday in the height of the bus owner’s protest.  Today, he said there is a link between the protest and the squatters’ eviction, and it has roots in Mexico. According to Menzies, a Mexican Bus Company is in negotiations to build a terminal on the land where the squatters called home.

Patrick Menzies, Spokesperson

“The reality is there is a connection. The area that right now they are trying to clear out, they are looking about putting in a terminal that is being financed by the A.D.O. which is the bus company from Mexico. This weekend, these guys were suppose to be right now in Mexico so that they could go meet with the ADO officials so that they can lease buses and get buses at a certain rate from Mexico. Therefore, they were going to crush these guys when they can’t pay their bills on the notes for the buses and therefore ADO will take over the transportation industry in Belize. This is a sellout of our country. There is a total connection between what’s happening out here and what’s happening with the bus. The bus industry is for sale. The P.M. said on Friday that he doesn’t agree with some things Melvin Hulse is doing. P.M. better pay attention, this is about this country being sold out.  We are not for sale. We are here to support Miss Schakron, she supported the bus industry—this is about a country that is not for sale.  Belizeans again I ask you; where is your god given backbone? What’s wrong? And I leave you with this one thought: it was said by Thomas Jefferson; “until those who are unaffected are as outraged as those who are affected, justice will not be served.” This that you see right now is because I am ticked off, Belizean are ticked off that this government doesn’t give a hoot about what happens to Belizeans. It’s about landing their pockets. It’s over Melvin Hulse! It’s over red! It’s over blue! It’s about a country and a people.”

In respect of the crisis in transportation, the BBA is calling a meeting for next Tuesday.

it was said by Thomas Jefferson; “until those who are unaffected are as outraged as those who are affected, justice will not be served………………….WOW THAT IS SO TRUE. TOO MANY OF US ARE JUST CONCERNED ABOUT OUR INDIVIDUAL NEEDS OR BENEFITS FROM THOSE IN POWER AND TURN A BLIND EYE TO THE BIG PICTURE OF WHATS HAPPENING IN OUR COUNTRY.

WHERE ARE THE GOV’T AGENCIES AND NGO’S THAT SHOULD BE PROTECTING HUMAN RIGHTS AND THE RIGHTS OF OUR WOMEN AND CHILDREN? THEY ARE SILENT, BECAUSE THEY DONT WANT TO UPSET MASTER BARROW.

  3. Real Justice says:

So the Mexicans can tell our ministers what to do to residents of this country. These very same politicians have made laws that condemn the poor young ladies who do sex for money, calling it immoral.
What can we call the politicians who sell out an entire industry to foreigners and deprive the Belizeans of their livelihood?
This is worse than immoral prostitution.

I am not shocked that anyone who has the ability to rant and rave to the public, spewing garbage, innuendo and rumor that he probably made up himself .. that the public takes all this as fact, without any, not any at all, support of these charges.. In Belize, IGNORANCE rules !!
