Convicted of burglary on fingerprint evidence

Elroy McKay

And in the Magistrates Court, twenty year old Elroy McKay, a Ladyville resident, was found guilty this evening for a burglary at the home of Crown Counsel Andrew Bennett. McKay broke into Bennett’s house in the Los Lagos community on August twenty-fifth, 2010 and made off with a television as well as assorted jewelry and perfumes. But it’s what he left behind that sealed his conviction. Scenes of Crimes officer, Angela Wiltshire lifted fingerprints at the scene which were analyzed and matched McKay’s. During the trial, McKay claimed that he was at work when the burglary occurred, but with the evidence stacked against him, Magistrate Dorothy Flowers found him guilty and handed down a sentence of eight year in prison. The burglary occurred between seven-thirty a.m. and eight-thirty p.m. while Bennett was not at home. Louvers were removed from a window on the south end of the house for the culprit to gain entrance.
