Two artists launch a picturesque exhibit at Institute of México

The public opening of an art exhibition is taking place at the Mexican Institute tonight. It is showcasing the works of two Belizean artists, Lucky Chiang and Vivian Liu as part of a cultural exchange program between Belize and Mexico. The pieces take us into the hearts and minds of the two artists through different techniques. News Five’s Jose Sanchez had a preview of the exhibition.

“Tonight the Embassy of Mexico is hosting an exhibition by two Belizean artists who are presenting more than seventy different works of art in different techniques. One of them is a big collection of water colors and the main subject of these paintings is different landscapes of Belize and about the nature of Belize.”

Lucky Chiang has thirty years of experience in water colors.

“What can we see in the water color paintings you have?”

Lucky Chiang, Artist

“Spiritual, land and poetry.”

The works of Vivian Liu, though encased in a frame, are three dimensional. Liu, whose hands normally do the talking, shared her thoughts with the aid of a translator.

Vivian Liu, Artist

Vivian Liu

“She make the clay to make the flower or design something, then make picture. Or she can draw and make shoes or anything. Or she use the fresh flour, make it dry with—make it together then to do some artwork.”

Jose Sanchez

“How long has she been doing this?”

Vivian Liu

“Over twenty years.”

Marcelino Miranda

“We have another section by Vivian Liu who has mastered different techniques, especially plasticine and works on wood. And also she’s working in different collages with flowers. All the pieces are on sale. We want to invite young people and children to attend this exhibition. This is a wonderful opportunity to admire very good quality pieces of art and at the same time the Mexican Institute is looking to inspire young people and children to develop artistic skills and also to introduce into the world of art. And also we want to inspire them to continue to develop their skills.”

Reporting for News Five, Jose Sanchez.

If you can’t make it tonight, you’ll have until June tenth to visit the Mexican Institute.
