Security guard removes 5 teeth from man urinating on fence

Harvey Everald Sambula

In the wee hours of this morning tour guide, Dean Smith went head to head with Fort Point Security Guard Harvey Sambula at the Princess Hotel and Casino. That clash ended with Smith losing five teeth and Sambula losing his freedom. It all started at around one-fifteen a.m. when Smith pulled up to the entrance of the casino and urinated on the fence. Reports are that the forty-four year old tour guide was cheeky when he was confronted and Sambula pulled out a black firearm, which he used to hit Smith his mouth several times, causing five teeth to fall out. In court today, Sambula, a thirty-two year old ex-BDF soldier, was charged with Aggravated Assault with a Firearm and Wounding upon Smith. He was automatically denied bail because of the firearm offence he is now remanded at the Belize Central Prison until July thirteenth. Chief Magistrate Margaret Gabb McKenzie informed Sambula that he has seven days to apply to the Supreme Court with the assistance of an attorney.

When I hear Princess Hotel and Casino, I wind up thinking about Eder Alamilla. The thought sequence is like this: Princess Hotel –> lots of cash –> power –> power that corrupts –> crime –> Eder –> impunity. There is someone out there with a conscience and info about Eder. Come forward and help solve the case for the record and so that that boy’s soul can rest in peace. It’s been six years.

True Sambula was a bit forceful in this case but should not Smith also be charged for urinating in public, it is a very common thing in the city and all over Belize that men urinate in public wherever they are and the government encourages this action reason I say this is that while I was in Belize I visited the BTL park in the early daytime where there is a restroom sitting about the center of the park and guess what it was locked up nowhere in sight to relieve yourself and we know Belize is not like the US where you can go into like a McDonalds or one of the other chains and use the rest room even if there is a restroom in a restaurant they don’t expect you to come in and use it unless you are purchasing at the time they don’t care that you might have purchase from them at some other time, in Belize you just don’t walk into a restaurant just to use their restroom and I am not even sure that there laws in place against urinating in public if there is it is not being enforced. Remember, My Legacy B 4 My People.

I would of done the same thing, being rude, peeing on a fence goes to show the man has no manners. glad the guy whack him in the mouth.

  5. Elgin Martinez says:

Mr Sambula was executing his duty as a result i believe that he should have been given bail.I am also of the opinion that Mr Sambula acted out of fear for his life because after urinating on the fence who knows what else this guy Smith could have done.Furthermore if the firearm that Mr Sambula was carrying is licensed then it would be irrelevant to deny him bail on the grounds that he used his firearm to subdue Smith.Assuming that the weapon was licensed then Mr Sambula would be acting in the capacity of an arm guard as a result it would be justifiable for him to use his weapon. This wasn’t someone off the streets using a firearm. This is a Young man who was tasked with providing security for this facility. This is the double standard that i am talking about.A reapeted offender kills someone gets off and a Law abiding Citizen goes to jail for executing his duty.I am in support of Mr Sambula and believe that his action was justifiable. We all know about the incident with Pipersberg and Rabateau whereby two security guards wer executed in cold blood. There was another incident approximately two weeks ago whereby a security guard was stabbed and stripped of his weapon.Let’s stop encouraging stupidity.

  6. my 2cents says:

Yeah we need more guys like him ( Sambula ) who is a trained BDF on the streets of Belize to calm down these gang bangers.

  7. Earl Grey says:

TWO WRONGS ……………DON’T MAKE A RIGHT!!!!!!!

Mr. Sambula is a PRIME CANDIDATE for………….
    THE SUSTAINABLE REHABILITATION CENTER……AKA……..THE PRISON FARM…….. 5 YRS…

There HE CAN EARN HIS KEEP and CONTRIBUTE TO SOCIETY at NO COST TO TAX-PAYERS.

  8. Drama says:

Talk about anger issues, obviously this young man needs help with the control of his emotions. When employed along with a background check a screening to detect anger should also be done. And the saddest thing of all is that Belize has Alcohol,Drug and Anger treatment programs but lazy and coward belizeans are scared of enrolling for the help and eventually it leads to this,SAD….nuff said

  9. BZNinCALI says:

He is where he should be & should also be sued civilly so that whatever property he owns can be sold to cover the cost of Mr Smith’s medical & dental bills. If allowed to go unpunished, this ignoramus may shoot the next person who pisses on his fence.

  10. RadicalBelizean says:

Extreme violence this man used on someone who urinated on the fence reflects the situation in Belize. Sure we need to stamp out this bad habit of men exposing and relieving themselves in public whilst we would be outraged if women did the same. Surely this is not the way.

Maybe the Princess establishment would like to paid for implants and give this man his smile back as a good will gesture.

  11. B Groovy says:

Enjoy u soup tour guide……..next teeth one mile……

  12. Elgin Martinez says:

Sambula maybe you should have told Vidal that you’re diabetic and as a result been incarcerated would have prevented you from getting proper medical attention.

  13. bush lawyer says:

claim that you play dominoes on saturdays at Brads and you get bail immediately!

  14. Swamp Dragon says:

So he pulls his pistol and bashes the guy’s teeth out? How about calling another security guard and detaining the man until Police arrive. I don’t know how this went down. Maybe he have no choice if the guy get belligerient. Very risky to use your pistol as a hammer. Seems like this guy took this thing personally and snapped. Maybe more information will come to light.

  15. JG says:

do we even have laws in belize addressing people urinating in public? i mean, anyone can drive around the city and see at least two men doing it in various parts….against fences, behind street lights, in alleys…. if i can see it, cant the police officers see it too??, the ones who SHOULD uphold the law?????? makes me think even more: where did belizean men pick up this habit? did they not have toilets in their home when they were growing up, that they had to go to the fence outside and urine like animals?

    makes me wonder…….

  16. JG says:

…..and by “tour guide” mi guessing the media really meant to say “taxi man”……a breed of man in belize who rarely cares about the laws or cares about following them. for teh first time in years, i had to take a taxi home from work last week. in front of the leo bradley library i got in teh car and teh car immediately pulled out into traffic, probably without looking to check if it was clear, because coming toward us was another car, but that didnt seem to mind to teh driver, he continued pulling out, cutting off the other driver, causing him to screech on his brakes.

if i could i would try to do something about drivers of public transportation: bus drivers, taximen, horse and carriage. they have no regard for law in belize. i may be stereotyping, but it just happens way too frequently. doesnt everyone complain about teh driving skills of taxi drivers and bus drivers “racing” on the roads????

again, if i can see it, cant the traffic department, traffic officers, traffic board & minister of transport all see it???

  17. Joe says:

This is the $#!% that is messing up our country!!!! I bet this guy would not go piss on a casino or house in chetumal. Damn – the court should have congratulated this security guard and release him.

  18. marco says:

Too much violence in this country and everyone wants to take the law in their own hands, WRONG. True, the law does not even protect who it needs to protect, its all about lawlessness in Belize, starting from the ones at the top to be and you!

  19. fromafar says:

ayayayayay… hope the pee was worth it… sometimes they’re good, sometimes they’re not. Imagine it, he’s having a nice pee, I mean it must be a nice one because he couldnt wait, and then a ex-bdf dude walks up to you, while you’re having this good pee, and #*!%# slaps you with a GUN, and five teeth drop out….

I mean, what a waste of a good piss… Poor guy, ruined a good pee… and then had to pay for some teeth… Send him to Florida, he’ll fit in nicely in Plant City.

    LOL

  20. CEO says:

THERE IS MORE TO THIS STORY THAN WHAT WAS PRINTED.

THE QUESTION IS WAS THE SECURITY GUARD EXECUTING HIS JOB OR NOT? IF HE IS LICENSED TO CARRY A SIDE ARM IN THE EXCUTION OF HIS DUTIES THIS LAW SHOULD NOT APPLY. ANYONE WHO IS LICENSED TO CARRY ARMS IN THE EXECUTION OF THEIR JOBS SHOULD AUTOMATICALLY EXCLUDED FROM THIS LAW. SHOULD HE BE CHARGED WITH EXCESIVE USE OF FORCE IN THE EXECUTION OF HIS JOB? THIS IS A MATTER THAT THE COURT SHOULD DECIDE.

IF THOSE THAT ARE ARMED IN AN EFFORT TO SECURE LAW AND ORDER ARE NOT EXCLUDED FROM THIS LAW THEN POLICE OFFICERS AND SOLDIERS SHOULD ALL BE LOCKED UP WHEN THEY DO THEIR JOBS. BECAUSE EVERY THING THEY DO THEY ALWAYS HAVE A WEAPON ON THEM.

MS MARGARET YOU NEED TO START THINKING A LITTLE BIT MORE!

IS THERE A LAW AGAINST URINATING IN PUBLIC OR INDECENT EXPOSURE?

THIS IS BS IF YOU ASK ME!!!!!!!

  21. yah yah says:

well i guess the Tour Guide will learn some manners and self respect and next time to use the damn bathroom lol, we need more aggressive security guard like dis that stand up and defend their guard. no them Nigirian that only wa look at u and smile like some ting wrong with them loltek action good move Harvey

  22. lisa says:

urination does no mean assaulting someone. the security guard he has problems controlling his temper. oh mayb he owns the casino duh. he need to pay financially and spend some time be bars for acting like it was his property and it was just a job.

  23. angrybelizean says:

weh di r@$$ i mih wah du di same thing weh he di pee outside ah wah building fa suppose pikni mi past by or my granny. ih should have knock out all ih teeth. deh need fi free da man.

  24. I Have Awaken says:

both are in the wrong; you can’t go around hitting people without that person being a threat to your person and the tour guide should have some self-respect, respect to his community and etiquette..

  25. I Have Awaken says:

agreed with JG; taxi drivers are the worse when it comes to breaking road laws. However, it is interesting to note that these guys develop some pretty good driving skills for I do not hear of many mortal traffic accident mishaps with taxis.

  26. MADDYVANDIJKDEREALISTO says:

    According to the news report:
Harvey Everald Sambula pulls out his gun and began hitting Smith in the mouth for being cheeky, and not for urinating on the fence itself.
This makes it an Aggravated Assault with a Firearm.

Guns provoke violence, and while I think Smith lacks respect for private and public properties, and should be fined by the court, Harvey Everald Sambula had no right to pounce on Smith with his gun just for being cheeky to a simple minded security guard.

His fragile ego and abusive behaviour could possibly be the reason why he was fired from the BDF in the first place.

  27. chabelli says:

    interesting

  28. Elgin Martinez says:

Lisa:We do not know if Mr Sambula was assaulted by Mr Smith.Furthermore this wasn’t just a job as you stated.Mr Sambula had a responsibility to provide security tfor that facility.

  29. MADDYVANDIJKDEREALISTO says:

Mr Sambula had a responsibility to provide security for the facility is not even in argument here (That is the obvious). Even if the security guard was verbally abused in this situation this still did not gave him the right to assault Smith in the un-called manner in which the security fragile ego played a huge part.
If abuse is what it takes to get a promotion in that business, then I hope they won’t mind if we brand them as the mentally handicapped members of that society. Now the idiot might need to watch his back.
