Belize Red Cross gets a handsome cheque from USAID

Today the Belize Red Cross signed a sixty thousand dollars Small Grant Agreement with United States Agency for International Development/Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance (USAID/OFDA). The grant is to fund the ‘Hurricane and Flood Mitigation Micro-projects for the Four River Valley Communities project. U.S Ambassador to Belize, Vinai Thummalapally, says that while the project is much needed, the signing also speaks to the significance of the good relations of the two countries.

“As the hurricane season fast approaches this project is vital for preparing low-lying communities for the season ahead. Monies  will be used to assist in the repairs of community shelters in the communities of Flowers Bank, Lemonal and Rancho Dolores, the place where we play cricket  and to provide  disaster  communication equipment to the residents of May Pen. This signing not only represents a great project that meets an important need, it represents cooperation. I ‘m always amazed at how deep the cooperation between the United States and Belize is and this project is just another example.”

Signing for the small grants agreement were Director of the Belize Red Cross, Lilly Bowman, and Michael Curry of the USAID/OFDA.
